Overall Appeal of Jones at UT campus

I don't know about the current situation in Knoxville right now, but I do remember 2006 in Tuscaloosa after Bama went 10-2 in 2005 with Shula that they were ready to take the leap of faith. Fortunately for them they were turned down by target number 1. Possibly 5 natty's later the risk was worth the reward. The President of the college let the Football minds do their thing and the AD was willing to stop short of cleaning Saban's dog poo out of his front lawn until he signed. Butch as with Shull righted a lot of ships for us. He brought talent back, he brought down a few streaks that were long overdue, he also gave us a national audience again, and he can't deliver the East when it literally is a 1 team race 2 years in a row. Sometimes just because a guy is likable, has done a few things for you, and is the easy road it doesn't mean you stop outreaching you grasp. I don't think he can do it, and if I am wrong the so be it, but if I am right then we need to get whatever AD is willing to put forth the true effort needed to bring someone who can take over a built program and do great things with it... aka a WINNER.

Yep...Lyle is not going to take us any further it seems.

We are going to have to get a real coach next time or we might as well become Memphis State.

I just wonder if our defense would be better if Shoop had his own assistants, instead of the Jancek leftovers.

This means 1 of 2 things, either the assistants are bad and Jancek was great or the assistants are fine and Shoop is clueless and was only successful elsewhere because of his assistants.

Winners are almost always revered on college campuses. Losers (especially to teams like USCe and Vandy) are much more hated and often called out to Hit the Road.

Face it. Jones has shown he is in way over his head. Don't believe it? Wait till next year when the "injury bug" isn't as big an excuse as he has used it this year. We will be lucky to be 6-6 next year.

I am all for hating on Jones, but calling next year a failure is kind of writing off the kids that will be on the team next year.

I am a student and I have friends on the team, classmates on the team, and roommates who go way back with several members of the team. No one will believe what I heard from real players setting on my coach about the Mack Crowder situation. No one will believe what they really think about Butch. As for the average student? There isn't a single one who likes him. I've been very surprised there hasn't been more outrage in terms of at least painting the rock to get his attention. I am not niave I know there are players coaches like Dabo and shrewd business coaches like Saban. Seems like Butch falls in the cheap alternative to the shrewd business coach and the results have blown up in our face with the strength and conditioning program, penalties, lack of discipline, and lack of motivation. That's all on him! Anyways he's grown thin with the players as well. He has double standards. According to one player he let's certain upper class man not workout when they don't want to. And yes it happened to be some of the ones who got hurt. I know people will have a hard time believing that but it's the truth. As for him leaving I don't know a thing. The biggest issue next year will be a lack of lockerroom leadership unless some underclassman step up like JK or Abernathy or Berry. Again I think that falls back on Butch for not foster a sense of leadership responsibilities because he's just in way over his head.

Upper class man would tell Butch they were too tiered or didn't want to work out and he wouldn't make them. The two main guys that did this have missed a lot of time this year

If this is true, then this team will self implode. I've seen it first hand, when players are treated as favorites, it creates a huge dissension within the team.

I'd consider the players who told me this very reliable. Two have been starters/contributors since they arrived. Another is just not a very good player but he will shoot you straight. The weight room issues are just some of the issues. When you pair that with the Hurd info you can't deny Butch is in way over his head. It shows on the field for christs sake.

Going to date myself - I was there during the Majors years and students were not high on him as well. Students like to be able to gloat to students at other schools and the only way they can do that is if their sports teams wins.

I bet they really loved the coaches and team after the Florida and Georgia wins. Probably don't right now because of the last loss. Students tend to be very fickle with the "I'll support you dependent upon whether you have done anything for me lately".

Even Saban complained last year (or maybe it was the year before) about the students at Bama.

He was talking about students leaving the ball game early

Players that are hurt generally do not participate heavily in practice or work outs based on the healing process. That is true at all levels of play.

He can't win with some of you - he works the players hard like last year - they get hurt in practice and folks say WTH. He tones down the work to avoid injuries in practice and folks say WTH. When a team has the injuries this team has had - yes let's make them go 200% at each other and see how many more starters we can add to the injury list during practice / workouts.

As for leadership - when 3 of your 4 named captains are hurt - it doesn't help.

A coaches job is NOT to make students like him. He should care less if the average student likes him personally. His job is to coach his players to be as good as they can possibly be on the field and encourage / ensure they are succeeding off the field. Tough love is understood and respected later in life - generally not when it is occurring.

Why the **** should people trust your judgement about Jones? I absolutely don't believe you. I'll be around to troll the fire Butch posters for years to come. Butch so far, has done a lot of *first in years* since he has been here. You have to abandon all logic and rational to conclude absolutely that he can't get us to ATL.

Do you have an aunt or uncle out of prison you can call? Ask them how much, and what, your mother drank while she was pregnant with you.

So it's all about Hurd. Good grief - move on from that.
