25 rule is an SEC rule made my Slive.

But how Bama does it I don't know. We all know about their counting problems...

Bama is grey shirting a few early commits to make room. Why they're willing to grey shirt I have no idea. Just goes to show what winning can do for you in recruiting.

I think Saban weeds out his under-performing kids and tells them they would be happier elsewhere to free up recruiting room. Does the 85 total trump the 25/class (ie...by getting rid of some current team members, he can shop for more?)

Was Bama back counting 3? I thought they signed a lot the previous 3 years.

At least 3

Its a matter of needs if all the "needs" are met they carry over to the next year. Opening up more room for talent. I look for Tennessee to try and follow suit.

Here's where it COULD work to UT's favor to have some room left after NSD. Some schools could wind up with a numbers problem and have to cut someone loose, or only be able to offer a grey shirt opportunity.

We shall see.

Alabama always asks some current football scholarship players to "move on" to make room for better recruits. They'll do that again this year I'm sure.

Why kids want to greyshirt at Bama when they could be in the 2 deep from day 1 at Tennessee is beyond me. Oh well, if we can grab a few more Ws than Ls this year maybe we can get back in the game as far as the top-5 classes go.

This class is awesome though. Only disappointment is LB, but I think we made up for it in other areas.

And LSU is No.16 on rivals ??? !!! Damn.... what happened there??

rivals doesn't count just stars, this is where their number and points system kicks in: LSU has 9 kids that are rated 5.8 (which seems to be the minimum number for 4 star recruits), we have 7 kids rated 5.8, 2 at 5.9, 1 at 6.0 (Patterson, who I was not expecting us to get :):):):):) ) by comparison, alabama, which is at number 1 in rivals' rankings, has 14 kids who are rated 5.8 or better...

THAT said, I have no idea why LSU's class seems to be rather lacking, considering the season they had.

A friend of mine is a Miami fan and said they are back counting 10. He also said they are trying to load up before the impending sanctions come down.

I have no clue about LSU's overall class except I do know they signed several 4 star LB'ers, in spite of losing one on a NSD change to Texas. Also, their team was young this past year, so they didn't have a lot of glaring needs that I'm aware of.
