alright it's hard for me to tell what more people wanted so in that case the best option is to post a poll.
I like the matchup with Va tech. Their ranked near the top 10 and i think a win on dec 31st vs them is more important, impressive, and exciting than beating northwestern or wisconsin on new years morning. IMO

So given the option what do you guys want?

Gonna have our hands full thats for sure. Thats if we go to the chik fila. But against a pro style offense we lock it down!

Much rather play VT. Who gives a crap about playing on Jan 1st? I think most people on this board are just upset that we are being picked under AU.

The fact of the matter is we havent done well on the road this year. I know we played Fl and Bama hard BUT we did not win. We are a 7 win team that has been up and down all year.

Just take the Chick-Fil-A bowl and play a ranked opponent and be happy. If we beat them it looks alot better on the program than beating Wisconsin. IMO

GO VOLS!!!

Plus I can make it to ATL!

0-3 vs the West. I don't like it either, but it's true.

Besides let Auburn wake up early the day after new years, ha ha

#11 Va Tech is FAR and AWAY the better game. go vols

I'm way in the minority, but I wanted to be in the New Years spotlight, in the crucial recruiting territory of Florida, and be looking at a sure thing win against the crappy Big 11, but apparently the prevailing thought is a crappier bowl against a better opponent is what's desireable.

it's not that thier better it's thier ranking. If they were unranked or even ranked 15-25 i dont think it' s as big of a deal. But after the championship games are played they could be a top 10 team. To beat a top 10 team in a bowl game is huge no matter what day it is on.

Whats so crappy about it? I agree with it being in Tampa would do wonders for recruiting BUT what is the glory of playing a team that is lock for a win (which could not be one)?

11AM game on NYD with other games to compete against is hardly 'in the spotlight'

The fact that it's played on December 31.

did your dog die on that day or something? i dont get it. we gotta primetime game that everyone will watch before they got out. I've personally never left the house at 7 -9 on new years eve. Usually 10:30 or so. I know i have woke up at 12 or 1 new years day and said sh** i overslept. I think the time and day are just fine. If we were playing a highly ranked team in the outback i would be all for that, but northwestern and wisconsin aren't cuttin it

chick fil a is the better matchup
outback is the better bowl

Agreed. The matchup with VT will be fun for vol fans because we've wanted to see this game for years. But Outback have been preferred because it's a better bowl, and would have been better in terms of perception and overall good for the program. It's about more than just who we fans think it would be more fun to watch them play.

I'm failing to see how a win against a nonranked unknown northwestern or wisconsin team on jan 1st is better than beating a top 10 team. you don't think that if we win we aren't gonna get alot of exposure from that. They are ranked 11th right now probably 9th or 10th when we play them. That will be considered a pretty big upset. Upsets get exposure. I think a win over them is great for our perception. Hell the fact that were playing a top 10 team is great for our perception. I think your putting too much into the date of the game. It's diffrent now. theyre are good bowl games played on the 30th of DEC through the 6th of jan.

True. But all that is predicated on UT finding a way to pull off the upset, which has to be far less that 50-50 odds. Winning the Outback bowl was almost a sure thing. It's going to look pretty bad if we get our clock cleaned in a third tier bowl game in front of this "huge national audience" everyone thinks is going to be watching this game.
