Why is it everytime mid-way through the 2nd half our boys seem like their out of gas.CBP needs to whip these boys in shape.Their lathargic play almost cost us last night.I honestly believe that if this is not addressed by SEC play,it's gonna cost us dearly.I'm sorry i'm b-tchin but it just worries me.

A) We are IN SEC play, so your "by" reference is way off.

B) Them hitting 7 or 8 straight threes in commendable, and somewhere you have to give them some credit. So to say we "ran out of gas" just isn't correct. We had gas, they just had racing fuel late in the game.

I meant the SEC tournament...sorry..not enough coffee yet.I disagree though, this has been a common pattern as of late

No doubt we let them back in, not denying that, BUT...we did win two SEC road games back to back....Let's not forget that. Two tough oppenents at that.......Let's go kick some Gator tail now!!!

Yep, and so has winning.

While I agree, we haven't closed out like I'd like, this game differs from the others in the pattern in that no other team hit so many huge threes in a row against us. If they just shoot 50% from three during that run, it's still a double digit game.

Good point...

Not denying we're good, road play has been good. Its just that we get a great lead then blow it,and hang on to win.

I agree. While we have had some games where we faltered a little down the stretch, I don't think it really matters how much energy a team plays with when the opposition hits 6 or 7 3 pointers in a 5 minute stretch. It wasn't like MSU was getting a bunch of wide open, uncontested shots.

Who do we blame for wide-open shots?

It was actually worse than that. By my count, they converted on 7 straight posessions, with 6 threes and a dunk. While a couple of those shots from the wing were open, many, particularly those by Gordon, were under heavy defensive pressure.

MSU caught fire down the stretch and turned a 15 point game into an interesting one. To use that as an indication of anything else is misguided.

He said they weren't a bunch of wide open uncontested shots. Yes, there were a couple, but for the most part, we had a hand in their faces, especially Jamont Gordon. The way he took that game over was just amazing. Give them some credit, please.

Look i'm just trying to always look for improvements,we're winning that's great, but lathargy will bite us in the azz come post-season.

He said it wasn't like they were a bunch of wide open shots. And they weren't. At least two of them were extremely closely defended, and none but one was wide open.

Point made, but why don't we play high-octane for 40 min.We let off the gas when we get a double-digit lead or more.

It is kind of human nature... But we don't want to be playing "high octane" at the end of a game with a lead. We want to work the clock. We were not doing that enough the last 3 or 4 minutes of yesterday's game as it was. We would jack up 3's in the first 10 seconds of a possession. That's basketball madness, as I think any of the volnation basketball brain trust members would agree.

they just look bored towards the end of the game because they know they are the better team and only want to have to do enough to win...

i really think the team knows what it is capable of and really hasn't played to their full potential yet

While Mississippi State made a great run in the last five minutes, we held on to win 2 conference road games in the same week. We used to lose all road games and some at home in the conference. If we hold serve at home against Florida we are well on our way to taking the SEC race. Most teams are going to lose at Mississippi State and Alabama. Good week! Keep it going against the Gators!

ever think maybe the pucker factor hurts us more late than lack of fitness? I know it's a novel idea, but might have some validity.

Out of gas is just plain wrong. We play a thousand people and nobody averages 30 min. We have no inside game and rely on jump shots or ramar slashing to score. Jumpers definitely get tougher the later the clock gets.

It appears we press less late, so teams turn it over less and our halfcourt D, regardless of what many would have us believe, is not very stingy.

Sometimes you just tip your hat to the competition.

Jamont Gordon and Barry Stewart were on fire in the last 5 minutes.

no doubt to Gordon. All of Stewart's 3s were wide open. Somebody should be shot for leaving him open late with the lead we had. He was really the only person who could make a game of it. Gordon, I'm for letting him shoot, but he knocked down some bigtime shots.

When we went to that stupid zone at the end...Chism was out at the corner on Gordon, I believe, not a good matchup he just side stepped Wheezy and nailed the 3...the zone sucked a big one.
