Next year we will have only one TE with any type of game experience and that is Brandon Downs. With Croom moving back to WR and Meredith's medical status could still be in question by spring practice could we see a situation where we take three TEs in this class.

Brandon Vandenburg
Woody Quinn
Chauntez Jackson.

I knew but never really gave it a second look until recently how bad our TE sitiuation is if Meredith doesn't come back and we just stick with Jackson then that gives us only three on the roster. This may be one of our weakest positions on the field as far as depth goes.

We need all of them. Quinn and Vandenburg will compliment each other.

Do we know for sure that Croom is going back to wide receiver?

I heard on 247 that Jones did say that Croom is moving back to WR, but even if he does come back that still only leaves us with one guy who has ever caught a pass in a game situation at Tennessee and that is Brandon Downs.

No kidding. We are thin. And it just goes to show how bad our luck has been because we had a former espn top 150 who'd have been in the system several years, he just happened to like to steal lap tops. We've had som many bad breaks. Maybe this Justin king kid will continue to develope

Was kinda hoping croom would stay at TE.Could have been like Aaron Hernandez.LB's wouldn't keep up with him.His size reminds me of Matt Milton. That didn't work out to well.

I'm pretty sure when we recruited cam clear he wasn't even rated by espn

I don't see how we will take all three. Our numbers are too tight for that. We will take 2 IMO

14 current commits

4 DBs
2 DL
1 LB

1 QB
1 TE
3 OL
2 WR

one of the OL, Skipper, could turn into another OL if we lose him and switch him out for a guy like Wiesman. Might do that and take one more.

May take one more QB.

There's 16.

3 more WRs. 19.

Irvin Sills. 20.

Green + another RB. 22.

3 spots left (idk if we can only take 25, or more? someone correct me if it isn't exactly 25 please.)

need those three spots to be 2 LBs, one TE imo.

Did this quickly/very rough outline. Feel free to add/comment.

I figure they get one of Vandenburg and Quinn OR Branisel.

JR Vandenburg/Quinn
JR Downs
FR-RS Meredith
FR Jackson

OR

JR Downs
FR-RS Meredith
FR Jackson
FR Branisel

Unless major strike-out-ing-ness happens and King slide to TE.

If we are looking at the scholarship # of 85 total then we can only get 19 recruits I think and that includes TB, CP and JH leaving.

He was recruited for OL or DL we didn't recruit him for TE if I recall.

Cam Clear was a highly-rated offensive lineman who wanted to play TE. Dooley offered to let him play TE as long as he could keep his weight down. We were just about the only team that was offering that deal (and actually meant it). 4-star OL 3-star TE.

This is correct as of right now. I think we will still sign as close to the 25 limit as possible.

There will be a lot of players whose scholly's will not be removed for various reasons. We will sign a full class.

Is it likely that any of these TE's -- JUCO or freshman -- would be EE and thus there for the Spring?

I had detailed another player thread long enough so I am bringing this here.

Would croom fit into jones scheme as a TE??

I think that since jones doesn't lineup in a traditional TE/ I formation running set where physical play is a premium with his TE that croom has time to grow into his frame. He is listed at 6'5 232 and that could easily be around 250 by August if he found himself as a full time TE. He clearly has the athleticism to be a huge factor in the middle of the field. Perhaps he isn't physical/bulky enough at the present but his frame is plenty capable of putting on bulk IMO.

Curious what others think and hopefully posters that disagree with me here will explain why croom doesn't have the skill set to perform well in jones system.
