Our scheme is garbage...

The Alabama players won 90+ Percent of the individual matchups today. Scheme had nothing to do with it.
I tend to agree overall, but running up the middle on downs 1 and 2 and a pitiful throw on 3rd down was getting old.

Coming from behind was cute the first 5 times. But it's not smart or fun. You can't build a consistent, winning program on luck. Truth is, we shouldn't have to fight back against at least 4 of those first 5 games and there seems to be some sort of disconnect within the offense.

4 years in and I can't put an identity to this offense either.

Most teams have some bread and butter plays they go to in a pinch but I can't tell you what that is for the Vols.

See what Kiffin did today with a freshman QB rushing for 120+ yards on around 12 carries as an example of what I am talking about.

This is what I'm getting at. What are we trying to be as an offense?

Scheme? What freaking scheme? We don't do anything of anything. If Dobbs doesn't keep it and run it why is he in the game? Could we run a reverse to slow down the rush?

Dobbs could not have kept it. They were all over him 95% of the time

To be honest we was too banged up to compete and our OLine has to many problems. Like Hurd but for this offense he makes scheme even more predictable.

"When every lineman is getting beat, it doesn't work."

Ya think! And yet we keep running this dumb scheme, even though our "talent" doesn't fit it?

Do you think there is a offense out there where the oline doesn't have to beat the guy in front of them?

So you're happy with running a dive play on 1st & 2nd down right into the weakest part of your offense? What am I missing?

DeBord can't scheme and Butch hasn't done anything to change it. Same things over and over every week.

It is what it is.

Dobbs was sacked three times in the first quarter. The receivers were getting no separation most of the time, and when they did, Dodds missed seeing it. He played poorly today.

There's no way in hell you run on the edges against the fastest defense on the country.

What exactly did you want to see?

They beat our ass. They are a superior program in every facet. It sucks, but it's true.

Well doesn't that make my point? What does our scheme do to mask deficiencies & create favorable match-ups?

I honestly haven't a clue what it is intended to accomplish. It doesn't create mismatches. It isn't dynamic. A Senior QB rocket scientist can't make reads, find open WRs. 30% of the plays go for 0 yards or less. I just don't get it.

It can't be solely o-line play. I'm watching a freshman QB carve us into pieces. So if y'all understand it, please enlighten me.

Our offense will remain very limited as long as Dobbs is at QB. He can't make any downfield throws and he makes a lot of bad reads so it really limits the plays that can be called to just runs, screen passes, quick outs, and other short passes. The defense knows this so they can crowd the box all game and we can't make them pay for it. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid, he is a great athlete and a hell of a football player, but he really should have been a receiver. I look forward to next year when we have a QB that can actually stretch the field and we can open up the playbook
