Since we basically live in a fantasy world around here and play alot of what if....I begin to wonder......
Say a former Vol player was some up and coming hotshot head coach at another school.....how much higher would the temp be on CPFs seat? How much louder would the out cry be?

A lot more.
Look at Major Applewhite. He'll be coaching Texas when Mack Brown leaves
that could be the case anyway, and not involve anyone from the UT family.
who exactly are we talking about then, gruden?not really......the CPF has done so much for us...he deserves better argument wouldn't be near as loud!
if they had brought in an outsider to replace Majors it wouldn't have gone over as well.
Plus if a former Vol went on to coaching greatness somewhere else and we had a shot of getting him....
i know....i'm just contending that they really aren't any knockout, slam dunk, home run, UT family candidates out there.please read the my first post......this is a what if senario......and not a who do you want as HC!

and i believe that if/when this does happen, MH will not make this a prerequisite for holding that position at UTK.
and just for the record, i do agree that it would make it easier, maybe not on the fanbase, but on MH and the boosters that will make that decision if there were a viable UT family candidate worthy RIGHT NOW.
i don't disagree, and this decision, when it does have to be made, will be MH's biggest challenge. while change is needed, it's not just change that will suffice. No there are no homegrown candidates or this wouldn't be a what if thread.....the natives would be in an uproar....thats why I started this thread. Hamilton would be feeling much more heat... Under Dickey it would have been a no brainer....I was just curious if MH could be pressured into such a move? Or would he go after his man regardless of the ties? If he passed on a homer and he struck out with his choice... his house would be burnt down!
yeah. I see that you were speaking to pure hypotheticals and I was caught inside the box trying to think of any UTK player in recent memory that a vast number of UTK fans, who are otherwise committed to Phil, would happily turn Phil out in order to get. I guess it is possible, but one of the qualities that the diehard Fulmer supporters always refer to when proclaiming the basis for their opinions is his loyalty to the school and his staff. Obviously, it is going to be very difficult to convince people who are willing to tollerate a few losses each year in exchange for loyalty to jump ship, thereby exposing themselves as unloyal hypocrites. It's sort of a Catch-22 for these folks and I think they realize that the only way for them to feel vindicated is to preserve the staus quo at all costs and hope for an eventual turnaround be it this year or 10 years from now. Or maybe I am just overestimating the obstinance of some folks?it would matter HB! it would justify the move in alot of minds....it wouldn't be as much about what Phil had done....it would be more of a we better get this guy before someone else does....
