I know it's just one year from the time they have been hired, but it seems as if this staff has hit it's stride as recruiters. I know there has been some ups and downs in regards to certain prospects, but overall it seems as if we are in good hands recruiting wise. Just seeing the fact that Eric Russell was instrumental in helping us land Marlin Lane is awesome. Hope 2012 is even better, which I believe it will be.

Right on. I think they have been recruiters from the start. They just play their cards very close to their vest. I'd say we will see progressively better results on the field and on the recruiting trail each year for the next few. Just don't be expecting world beaters too soon. Patience is key.

This will end up being a very nice, respectable class. Nothing more, nothing less. With that said, if this class represents this staff hitting it's stride, go ahead and fire them now. We won't get past the middle of the pack in the SEC.

Seems like they may slow play a lot more than the last regime, which indicates real relationships being formed, I like it.

Absolutely. I've had a good feeling about them since spring, and what's going on now is proving me right. Just very impressed right now. Not expecting too much until 2012. But I'm happy right now.

Great Post. I seen Skeeter posted in another thread that Lane's staff recruited with questionable tactics, Fulmer's recruiting staff got lazy at the end of his tenure, but that Dooley and staff's recruiting tactics were the best of both worlds. It just seems to me that CDD and staff have what it takes to dominate the in-home visits with the families. I don't know what he does or what he says, but it works. I think he can really relate to the parents of recruits. It never hurts to have the parents on your side.

Also I hope and think you are right about 2012. I am calling top 5 in 2012. Seriously. Maybe top 3 class if we have a surprisingly good season next year. It just depends on what product we put on the field next year. But regardless 2012 will be the year CDD and staff do it big IMO.

I think we finish with a 4-8 class in 2012.

Total BS. What do you expect given where we are as a program right now? We're holding our own as a charter member of the traditional Big Six of the SEC. We are going to have a Top 10-15 class. You could throw a blanket over the teams at that point because 1-2 players will literally make you Top 3 or 15th.

How much distance did we put on the rest of the league when Fulmer was signing Top 5 classes every year?

I believe that once we get our starters identified and good quality depth, then our yearly recruiting classes won't be as good. Most of the recruits are coming here because they see us on the rise and they see an opportunity for playing time. Once
our team has quality depth, then a recruit may decide to go elsewhere and have immediate playing time.

Assuming we have landed Moore and Marlin, if we land Richardson, Clear, Dawson, Maggitt, and 1-2 of the following Wright/Johnson/Fulse/Mackey/Jernigan then we probably have top 8 class.

That would leave us with 14-15 4 stars.

I said from the get go in this year's class it would be 8-12.

I expect 2012 to be a very good class. Geno Smith and Brian Kimbrow will help make a case for a top 5 class.

This was an excellent class for what the staff had to work with. Also, these coaches are pursuing high character guys who won't be problematic to the organization. This is most exciting to me. It may be great to have the 5 stars on signing day but when they transfer or get arrested, its never a good feeling. Look at the 2009 class. How many of those guys worked out well for us.

That's also 6-7th in the SEC!! Are you saying that Dooley can coach up 3 and 4 stars consistently enough so that they can BEAT 5 stars coached by Saban on the same field? I'm not trying to bash Dooley. I think he has a tough job, but he also has an incredible amount to offer -- like playing time, like being on an SEC team, like playing in front of 100,000+ every weekend, like an amazing new all-football facility, etc. Winning and losing records have very little to do with recruiting anymore -- where do you think Florida ends up this year after a losing season and a new coach who has never coached a down as a HC? The excuses can only last so long. At the end of the day, we either catch up or we don't.....and recruiting is the place to start.

Sorry for not drinking the Orange Dooley-Aid so quickly.

Love to pull these guys in but how much room is left?Who would be told to look somewhere else, Thomas, Carson perhaps?

I knew this had to become this same ol' tired debate again... so here we go.

Do you know that someone like Jordan Williams isn't really a 4-5* player? There are people who have seen him play in person that say he is. How about Brian Randolph? The AJC who has seen him up close and personal thinks he's one of the best players in UGA. Are you sure he isn't better than a 4-5* that UT missed on?

Look at each one of UT's 3* commits and tell us which ones you are certain will not be better than more highly rated players.

Sorry for not drinking the Orange Dooley-Aid so quickly.

But people so willing gulp the Rivals Punch even though the miss so frequently.

Top 15 classes are talented enough to win consistently.

If Dooley keeps recruiting like he does and fails, it won't be because of a lack of talent.

Thanks. I expect it to be closer to the 4 than the 8. We are seriously in on some big time recruits in GA in 2012. There are the 2 DL teammates, the CB Geno Smith. Also with the TN talent especially from the Memphis area. Kimbrow, Bowles, Nathan Cole, Ben Still, etc. And can't forget it seems we are in on 3 of the top QBs in the entire country for 2012. Either one of Kiel, Brewer, or Pike would be huge.

Another great asset for our 2012 class will be our ability to be a little picky at certain positions. If we truly do end with Tiny and Clear as expected in this class it would make our OL be pretty much set for years. That in turn gives us much flexibility for our 2012 OL recruiting and gives us the ability to be picky and choose the best 2 or maybe 3 linemen we want.

Maybe, but that doesn't prevent texas and alabama from signing top 3 classes year after year. You start selling competing for championships instead of selling playing time. Different hot buttons for different kids. If our guys can recruit, and it appears that they can, we should be able to stack up the classes repeatedly.
