There are going to be a rush to find college head coaches this year. ND may boot Weis. I really hope we get a WOW coach for the future.

Unless Weis gets canned, we'll NEVER be in better shape to get the best coach out ther.e

Mike Rosenthal, a former NFL and ND lineman, is a talk radio host here in Austin. He actually says the ND isn't highly sought after at this point, and that they would be better off hanging onto Weiss. In his mind, ND is an 8-4 program, just not the destination that it has been historically. Keep in mind this is a ND guy saying this, and seems to be reasonably intelligent. He also said that if change were ultimately desired, the $21 mil buyout wouldn't slow anything down.

it will cost ND wayyyyy toooo much to can Weiss right now......maybe after next year......but i'd be surprised if that happaned now.

and i agree, ND has been thru this so much lately, when guys like urban meyer that had full intentions of wanting to be ND HC, say "no thanks"........it has to make people wonder.

no, what this is, simply, is ND making poor choice after poor choice. God love 'em for it too.

That sounds familiar.

$21 million? Wow ND is retarded to ever put themselves in that position in the next few years.

Weis is not going anywhere this year. Next year may be another story.

ND is one of few programs that has an unlimited budget when it comes to football

they're certainly testing that theory with the contract they gave CW, and now the thought of the buyout for that contract.........oof.

my point though is, ND has become irrelevent nationally.

and as an independent program there's NOTHING to play for but national titles. what incentive is there to go coach there? they can't get players like they could 20 years ago. they don't have THAT much more money than everyone else......you can't even get the same players as everyone else.

people still know who ND is because ND casts a long shadow. but that's it. there's no tangible football reason that makes ND so much better than any other job in the country.

and eventually "because it's notre dame" isn't going to work anymore.

I totally agree. They don't want to give up money from NBC, but really need to join the BIG 11 for their future.

The knee jerk contract extension that Charlie Weis got during his first season makes Fulmer's last extension look like pure genius.

I dont see how ND could be very appealing....which is kinda backed up by Urban turning them down. They are not the same ND of 20 years ago. They have more stringent admission standards than most D1 football powers and they obviously have no loyalty to a HC if they are even considering firing Weis already. If they did that, they are officially the Oakland Raiders of the NCAA. Firing coach after coach before he even has 4 years to groom his own first recruiting class. I am sure they are regretting giving him that ridiculous extension while he was winning with Ty's players.

Notre Dame wants to hang on to their multi-year, multi-multi-million dollar TV contract while also hanging on tho their historically weak schedule, and getting a BCS bowl as well, things that are mutually incompatible. It seems that the Big Eleven Conference wanted them to join, but ND doesn't want any part of a conference where they have the potential to be drilled at least half the time, from the likes of O.S. Mich., P.S.U. and others. So, unless ND ponies up and is willing to toughen up their schedule, and possibly join a tough conference, they are probably going to keep shuffling coaches. Reality is sometimes a tough thing to face.

i live in Michigan and just heard Huge say that CW and Notre Dame are scared because the next HC that they were interested in keeps coming up in replacement for CPF. That name would be Brian Kelly. He went on to call CW a "slimeball"
