i dont' think the message boards affect anything, if for no other reason than the ebb and flow of opinion changes so quickly, and with any win or loss, there are emotiona spikes from the fan base.
i guess if i were to pay attention to anything said on a message board, it would have to be after a good bit of time of reading and deciphering the yahoos from the somewhat knowledgeable fans.
i do think you can get a good read on what the overall fan base thinks from these things, but does that matter to what decisions are made....not so much.
and i agree with OWH.....i've seen some columns and editorials published that looked like it was taken directly from some of the threads on this site. were they? or were those opinions shared just so overwhelmingly obvious or popular that they get published by like minded writers? dunno. but the media probably pays a lot more attention to these things.
