Organize or Perish

interesting questions.

i dont' think the message boards affect anything, if for no other reason than the ebb and flow of opinion changes so quickly, and with any win or loss, there are emotiona spikes from the fan base.

i guess if i were to pay attention to anything said on a message board, it would have to be after a good bit of time of reading and deciphering the yahoos from the somewhat knowledgeable fans.

i do think you can get a good read on what the overall fan base thinks from these things, but does that matter to what decisions are made....not so much.

and i agree with OWH.....i've seen some columns and editorials published that looked like it was taken directly from some of the threads on this site. were they? or were those opinions shared just so overwhelmingly obvious or popular that they get published by like minded writers? dunno. but the media probably pays a lot more attention to these things.

Yeah, fireronzook.com just killed Florida when it came time to hire a new coach.

It didn't, obviously, but the ridiculously high expectations of Florida fans did matter when we were after Stoops and ended up with Zook in the first place. And the fireronzook.com website was reported in the media quite a bit and in a fairly negative light, IMO. In fact, in the last month some folks on this site have posted threads about fireurbanmeyer.com, an obviously bogus site relative to zook, but the point has been that Florida fans are irrational in their expectations and that, if you don't deliver and damn quick, you get run out on rails.

I'm not saying that organized protest against Fulmer won't work after the admin shows a bit of resistance to the pressure of fans just for the sake of it, but in the long run you sure do set yourself up to have to do it all over again in a few years if the successor is no more fortunate.

Okay that didn't take long:

Sports Media Challenege

Check out the section that says "Buzz Manager". Basically what it does is checks the internet for the "buzz" about Tennessee Sports. It says it looks at blogs, chat rooms, message boards, etc.

Stoops was never, ever coming to Florida under any circumstance.

He also saw a group of coeds throw their panties at Fulmer when his name was announced at the Georgia game.

Panties used to come flying from the bleachers when my name was announced while playing football in high school:)

Seriously, ask Vol Freak how many accounts are made and then are never posted under. There are a lot of people from high up in the athletic program that view message boards to make sure team managers and what not post on message boards and spread what's going on in practices and team meeting. I imagine they report what the overall tone is on the coaching staff as well.
