I wonder how many of us on here have similar stories, me and my old man went to games, that was pretty much the only time we spent together. We aren't close and I know he really only went for me, I remember being at the sugar bowl and some rude va fans in front of us were riding us the hole game. My dad almost got in a fight because someone stepped on our coats that were in the seat beside of us, he was mad at how we were playing at the time, thank goodness for that last drive. After reading that I just had a lot of memories come back and I know my dad won't be around too much longer either, but at least i have those ut memories.

Damn! I got to thinking after I read this, and the date hit me.

Lost mine 17 years ago tomorrow. November 25, 1991. I can still hear his voice as clear as if he were sitting beside me.

That was probabaly the best post I've seen since I've been on here. Went to my first game this year with my dad, first time either one of us had been in the stadium. I'll never forget it. Good luck and God Bless.

Man, I had to come back and re-read your post. Its good. I can relate to your situation.

Some of the threads have been so dumb lately I was contemplating taking a break from VN until all of this was over. This post made me remember why I love college football and this board. Thanks.

Awesome memories, and that is just what is so great about sports. The memories I will always remember the best about my dad is all of the sporting events I have been able to attend with him. Great post, and my thoughts and prayers go out to your dad.

thank you everyone for the prayers. a special thank you to hat for an offer from the heart. it's my hope that it is an offer we would be able to entertain. I actually went through about every emotion available writing (rambling) all those memories.

To think, I almost didn't read this thread thinking it was gonna be some silly drivel --I'm so thankful I didn't skip it! Thanks rth - you made my day & gave my a lump in my throat. I'm with 3L + debt, torn between reading VN for info on the coach search & taking a sabbatical to avoid all the infighting & some downright ugly stuff I've read that disheartens me. Your post (& the responses to it) renewed my faith in the Orange Nation.

Didn't grow up on UT football games -my first game was UCLA my freshman year, but I've been hooked ever since & have raised our kids going to UT games. I hope their memories are as sweet as those some of you have mentioned here.

Thanks....It truly shows us all what this week is about. And that is being Thankful for the things we have. I still am blessed for I am 41 years old and still have both my parents attending each game with me and my family. I hope in years to come that I will to have those great memories and build memories with my 3 girls.
Thanks again and God speed.

I bet most of us do. We have the same seats we got in 1956 before there was even a west side upper deck. I remember going and having to walk up to row 56. They had the cannon and that old scoreboard that was impossible to read.

Those memories are what make the Vols special.

Great story. Taking children to Neyland is a wonderful experience and having them share in the Vol experience with their parents cannot be measured....Hope my children and grandchildren will remember times with me at Neyland and watching Tn on the tube when we didn't have tickets....Good luck on the health issue. My husband got diagnosed this time last year and last week got a clean bill of health...Miracles do happen. We wish one for you and your father. Thanks again for sharing.

Well, the results came back yesterday. It's cancer. He'll go this week to find out where it's coming from and discuss treatment options with the doc.

Thanks again for all your prayers & wishes.

Your original post was absolutely amazing. It's funny how things can get put into perspective really fast in life. My mother-in-law passed away from cancer a little over a year ago. One month after she was diagnosed, my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer as well. Thankfully, he has kicked the cancer swiftly in the ass. Sounds like your dad is a fighter and will do the same. Good luck to your dad... Tell him a fellow Vols fan says GO VOLS!
