Running QB's have historically been kryptonite for Vol defenses. However, this year we've only given up 95 rushing yards to opposing QB's. This is just another example of how our defense has improved. Is it scheme, talent, or both?

Disclaimer: Yes, I understand that sack yardage counts against rushing stats.

Also, our D is bigger and hits really hard on the line and in space.

I can't help but think OCs are a little scared to send their QB downfield against us knowing that either A. Omari Thomas or Omar Norman Lott land on them or B. A Carter, B Carter, or Jermod McCoy lays the wood in space. Those hits have to hurt.

The ideal is Man to Man cover up the WRs while we have enough trust in our front 6 or 7 to contain the QB, meaning there is literally no where to go with the ball.

Having nowhere to go with the ball typically leads to more QB runs.

Zone is better against QB runs because everyone sees the QB

I think that we are keeping our "grass" longer this year and it is causing the opposing QB to be slow and let our defenders catch up.

I don’t know what it is, but I can definitely tell you what it ISN’T . . .

The reason we’ve drastically reduced QB rushing yards is definitely NOT because of Tim Banks!

I’ve been assured on this board that he’s in over his head.

One is reason is the Vols have DBs that can play the run and make tackles. Brooks is the leading tackler. 5 of the top 10 tacklers are DBs. The Vols have DBs that are physical and can hit all across the board.

I don’t know if it’s Jimmy or Joe but both are a lot better than in the past
