Full confession on the front end, I do not come in here too often however I no the basics. I am just checking to see how many spots are left. With several positions of need left, how selective do the Vols have to be when it comes time to accept a verbal at this point. Thanks

We are extremely selective at this point.

1 WR - HS WR only
2 OT - both tackles, will try very very hard to make sure 1 is JUCO
1 DE - SDE only. Not sure if Humpreys would be a SDE or DT though, hopefully this is Hendrix
3 DT - preferably 1 JUCO and 2 HS
1 LB - HS MLB
1 CB - HS
1 Best Available DB
1 Best Available overall

We will not deviate from that list unless we get into the conversation on a few new elite players.

1 WR - Malone/Booth
2 OT - Raulerson/Blair

1 Best Available DB - Berry
1 Best Available overall - Berry

JMO...don't see how we say no to the Berry twins.

Just not those in spelling.......

Just kidding man. :hi: I figured I would get it out of the way before someone who is actually serious about it does.

We have 10 more according to Hooker and he said Butch may keep a couple open for next year. He trhinks we take 8 more. Can't see it myself. We have too many still out there but who knows what will happen between now and NSD. We've got to get some DL.

Edit:

Ryan Callahan from 247 says we have 11 spots left.

Hooker is clueless. We are taking 30, excluding Dews, unless something goes terribly wrong. With 5 JUCO's, plus another 6-8 RS, this class will be distributed evenly. Next years class will probably be 18-20, depending on attrition.

He would take 35 if he could this year.

smdh at not having spots for berry twins.
after all that family has given, out of sheer respect to james eric and the twins. you find a way to pay for their schooling, partial academic, heck come up with something.

plus these kids can play too.

Yes, the number is 30. Technically, Jones could decide to take 28 to even things out, but he won't. Not with the momentum we have this cycle. It's 30 and we'll take 30 and GS Dews. Bank on it.

I would be fine with that. I say the earlier we get them in to learn the system the better. We are also in on some great talent this year. Strike while the Iron is Hot.

Excellent posts. Do you think we take the Berry twins? Glad to see you posting. Your discussion and contributions are recognized and appreciated on VN. If you had a 2015 projected roster chart on VN, there would be pages of discussion. Not so much on TOS. :)

Please help me with a question. I realize we offer more scholarships to athletes than we have openings. If we get to our roster limit due to verbal commitments , then do the offers no longer stand? I was thinking about the Berry twins. If we get to 31 commits, or whatever the limit is and the Berry twins have not committed, then they will not be going to UT unless someone decommits. Also, "true" commitments are when they sign in February.

As the number of scholarships available get lower, they must be more selective. However; as I have always stated, we should not think of 29, as the number of scholarships that we will have in the 2014 class.

As in every season, we will have approximately 5 or 6 more players leave the program between now and Nations Signing Day.

Some will have academic issues, some will have off the field issues, and some will leave due to lack of playing time.

With an additional 6 scholarships to offer, we can address the offensive line and defensive line. Next season we will be short on offensive and defensive line players. So, we should start recruiting to replace James, Stone, Tiny, etc. Smith, Couch, McCullers, Hood, etc. Or we can recruit to add depth at certain positions....

I think we do. I don't particularly prescribe to the notion that they are universal takes, but I think right now they are. I would much rather take a 4th DT or 2nd SDE (Best Available) and a different corner (BA DB), like Lammons.

I would love to see the berry twins here. But, if we have equally or better talented players filling up spots its hard to save spots for them while they are checking other schools out. Why say no to other players if there is still a chance we don't land the berry twins.
