Twitter stream from TFP's Wes Rucker...

-We've got breaking news coming to the Web: #Vols commit Jacques Smith from Ooltewah suspended 1 game, recruiting status with UT unchanged.

-Smith got into an altercation with a teammate in practice, and Owls coach Benny Monroe won't tolerate that from any player.

-Monroe called UT coaches, who said they appreciated his disciplinary tactics. Still taking Smith's signature bc they consider this a blip.

-Let's clear this up: Benny Monroe simply cited "disciplinary reasons" for Smith's suspsension. Details came from other sources.

Thanks for the update. Seems like Smith has his head on straight from previous interviews. Things happen; he will be a beast under Coach O!

Now I'm just waiting for some idiot Bama or UF or w/e fan to blow this totally out of proportion and accuse us of recruiting thugs and say our team has no discipline, etc.

Yes, that is what a good program does.
I hope he busted Ooltewahvol in the mouth for posting crap about the coach and QB on here.

lol - I think the most surprising thing here is someone at Ooltewah actually tried to fight Jacques.

Lol Benny has watched many on field fights and done nothing. Im think Jacques just busted the kid pretty good so he had to do something.

Probably, his last game. I cannot believe TSSAA's playoff system this year, Ooltewah v. Farragut in the 1st round. Seriously.

Would love to shake the hand of the guy who was the other half of this altercation... He must be one brave man to try and start or continue anything with Mr.Smith!!!

Well I haven't followed Jac very closely as of late....but he is a very laid back guy. We were on a church trip one time and someone did the prank to him with the shaving cream in hand and make him smear it all over his face when he was asleep. He flew off the handle. We were camping and he woke everyone up. This really has nothing to do with the situation, but he does have a bit of a temper if someone really pisses him off. But from what I know of him, he is a very laid back guy and it takes a lot to piss him off. If I had to say, I would say that he had a valid reason for getting into the "altercation".

Seriously... who in high school'd wanna bump jaws with that guy...

No doubt. I was in 8th Grade when he came to Hunter as a 6th grader. He was the biggest guy on the team. No one messed with him then....I'm not sure why anyone would do it in high school either.

I was actually going to head to my first Ooltewah game this year....just to watch him play.....guess I won't be doing that this week.

I read somewhere while bouncing from VN and VQ and saw it was a sophmore acting up a JS tried to down play it and the kid wouldn't let it be and so JS showed him why to listen to him when he speaks

I wonder what the fight was over? When I played in HS it seemed like we had an altercation every week during the heat of practice, naturally stemming from being aggresive. Our coaches never suspended any of us, they saw it as a good sign we were getting after it and competing. Everybody was always cool afterward and it was all good.

I would guess there are probably circumstances the outside isn't privy too.
