A big part of that is on the coaches. They look at films and they knew what was coming. Have a plan in practice to address it. When I played at Memphis State under Gene Bartow/Leroy Hunt they prepared the team for each game and each different team. Tenn did not look prepared at all to attack the full court press. We are missing ZZ something terrible this year. Watching them struggle to inbounds the ball against A&M was an eye opener. It better get straightened out real quick or we will see it every week.
It looked like too many times we would let the ball lay on the floor for 5 seconds before someone would pick it up and take it out and then AM had more time to set their defense. Looks like someone should take it out quick as possible before the defense can find their man.I dont understand starting your players at or beyond the 3 point line to try and enter the ball against the press. Its like playing your cornerbacks 15 yards off the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 3. And there seems to be no urgency with the guys trying to get open. This is completely on the coaching staff for not making an in game adjustment to this.

Ultimately, the coaches are responsible for the players execution. That said, Barnes was extremely frustrated after the game with the players execution. They spent an entire day on Monday preparing for A&M’s press. Players failed to carry out their assignments and were confused when they could and couldn’t run the baseline when inbounding. Hopefully they’ll get it fixed.A big part of that is on the coaches. They look at films and they knew what was coming. Have a plan in practice to address it. I went to A & M game ...I've never saw a team have as hard time inbounding the ball as Vols had the entire gameWe are missing ZZ something terrible this year. I thought against that full court press with total fronting and denial on the inbounds pass, it was a good move to adjust to using him as the go-to guy in the inbounds in the second half. His length and ability to receive a lob helps a ton on that sort of inbounds pressure. He also can bring it up court efficiently. No doubt that the staff has been aware that it was going to be an issue. Using Ament as the inbounder might be a really smart move, although he’s going to go through some growing pains with more turnovers than is ultimately acceptable. Especially if Henderson gets proficient at attacking the press as well. As bad as the half court offense is at times, breaking the press could evolve into scoring opportunities.
