A Head Coach who can get players to buy into the team’s goals can help counter the negative effects of NIL/Transfer Portal, keeping the focus on the team instead of personal rewards. Cam Ward sitting out the second half of the Miami game after hitting his personal milestone shows how NIL/Me First Attitude can make players prioritize their own stats over the team’s success, ultimately leading to a loss. Ward is supposed to be a leader and Tone Setter; he fostered a Culture of Quitting.

On the other hand, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter of Colorado kept fighting until the end, even though the game was slipping away. Their determination showed how a strong team mentality can keep players focused on the bigger picture, no matter what individual rewards they might be getting. Both, top 5 picks and both gave their all for their team until the clock struck 0:00.

I have NEVER once shown love towards Deion Sanders or the Buffalos; but after what I'm seeing happen all over CFB... I respect those players. I really appreciate people who don't quit when there is nothing left to gain for their own accolades and continue to fight for their brothers. Big Respect to Deion for having the players buy in, even if they did it for Pops; they still finished the game and you have to appreciate that.

He fostered a culture of quitting in his last half of football at a school he led to their best record since 2017? That culture must be really poor to begin with if he can do that in 1H of football.

I understand you can't think outside the box..
Look at FSU, look what happened to the school after being a potential playoff team.
1 hour, 30 minutes, 1 Quarter... can change the direction of a Football Program.
If you don't think that Cam Ward quitting on the team that gave him 12 1/2 games of their all may have a negative impact on the ones who cared, then I don't know what to tell you.

Outside the box? Lulz, what’s the box here? FSU had 23 guys leave.

The difference between Miami being good next year or not is probably more impacted by Cam being drafted and not by him sitting out 1H of his last game there. He probably helped the team a bit by letting them evaluate their next man up in a tight game.

Do you believe that this year’s Vols had a culture of quitting since Milton sat out the bowl game last January?

Bowl games outside of the playoff are meaningless.
Doesn't mean they aren't worthwhile. Personally, I don't GAF about the championship tournament any more.

Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl went to the last 4 seconds and came down to one point.
Toledo/Pitt went 6 OTs.
USCjr/Henry Blake is a pretty damned good game too.

The FCS championship between Montana St and North Dakota St will be a good game too. Vegas doesnt care so much about any of those though, therefore... "meaningless"

It’s entirely possible for bowl games to be entertaining, competitive and meaningless all at the same time.

Unless you’re a degenerate gambler or TV executive, in which case they’re all significant.

The evolution of how bowl games are viewed over time is really interesting to me. If anything, the current perception of their value isn't new but actually a reversion to how they were viewed before the 1970s. I don't know the exact year when it changed, but the final AP Poll (and the other polls too) used to come out before the bowls were played, and the bowls had no impact on the final rankings. Prior to that, they were very much viewed as exhibition games. That seemed to change from the 80s to the 2000s, but now it has swung back the other way where the non-championship bowls are viewed as exhibitions again.

When bowl games mean less is when teams that usually top ten get put into the idgaf bowl, and everyone opts out

Nothing if meaningless if the check clears.

This is why you see Dustin Hoffman in movies like "Little Fockers" or whatever. The check cleared.
