One Bright Note From the Season

I think there are alot of bright spots from this season but i cant agree with you more on UF. There is no team I despise more than the gators (As well as Bama and Ohio State) and to see them lose puts a smile on my face.

Yeah but the 2 blowouts by UK overshadows it a bit. Kentucky is still our biggest Bball rival.

I still think Bruce shoulda sent out a walk on offa the bench to punch J. Meeks in da nuts. At least at our house anyway.

I am glad we pulled this one off. It's nice to beat them at any sport. And as far as KY goes, there is another chance to beat them during the SEC tournament. We'll see if our boys can step up at that time.

I imagine our excitement over dominating UF hoops is similar to them dominating us in football. We were supposed to win most of them and did.

OH WHOOPS!

SHHH GUYS!

WE AREN'T ALLOWED TO GET EXCITED! :banghead2:

I don't have the time to pull lines and stats from the past 4 years, but I don't think that's accurate. The Gators have won two national championships and went into yesterday's game with a long home winning streak. I'm guessing we were favored in no more than half of our matchups.

Um yeah, the first 2 years (4 meetings) Bruce was coach were the 2 years UF won the NC. They were ranked everytime we played them and we may have been once. Either way they were heavily favored each of the 1st 4 times of which we won 3 (1 in gainesshit). If u had looked at the Vegas line for yesterday's game im betting UF was favored at home. Just a rambling guess...

I think the line ended up being florida by 4.5 for yesterday.

Sorry for the buzzkill but the fact is beating Florida in basketball is nowhere near as big as beating Kentucky in basketball. And while I'm glad we swept Florida, I would have rather split with both instead of sweeping Florida and getting destroyed twice by Kentucky.

That and Florida just doesn't seem to care about basketball. They're 2 years removed from their 2nd consecutive NC and they still don't consistently sellout a 13,000 seat arena. So in that respect dominating UF in basketball upsets UF fans about as much as dominating SC in basketball...both probably really don't care that much outside of some diehards.

I don't even consider Florida our second biggest b-ball rival, that would be Vandy.

Not at all correct. I'd say that UF bball over the last four years was SLIGHTLY more relevant than UT football over the last four years.

Just as the level of domination was wildly different.

I don't really see how that is relevant to the discussion. Point is: we have beaten up on UF, even when they were in the midst of National Title runs. I am certainly aware of Bruce's shortcomings, but his resume against the Gators is worth noting. . . .and I'm just doing so.

We were supposed to beat them their 2 NC years? What about this past game where we were a 5 point underdog?

exactly... the thread title was "one bright note to the season"... it wasnt "the season was a success overall since we beat the gators" or anything like that... geeesh, could also have called it this season's silver lining or something since everyone wants to be so negative
