I am confused because it sounds like Texas got paid more than Oklahoma even though Oklahoma was in the playoffs. Which I assumed meant a higher payout than whatever bowl Texas went to

The tweet shared in the FF thread on the topic said OU and TEX got less as non-full members.

No idea what that means.

SEC schools (& front office) each receive $72.4 Million in shared revenue for the 2024-2025 sports year

That’s up $18.6 million from the $53.8 million each got from the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The conference generated around $1.03 billion dollars for 2024-2025 sports year (compared to the $808.4 million during 2023-2024).

The money is coming for Oklahoma. But the Sooners will still have to wait a year to reap the financial rewards of joining the Southeastern Conference.The league announced its 2024-25 revenue distribution on Thursday — in excess of $1 billion, or about $72 million per member.
That is, for the 14 full-year members — which Oklahoma and Texas were not.
The Sooners and Longhorns’ revenue distribution for fiscal year 2025 is $2.6 million for OU and $12.6 million for UT. Texas got more because of its College Football Playoff appearance while OU’s postseason contribution was the Armed Forces Bowl. Just what I found...

If these schools are getting $72 million each, then the average fans need to be getting discounted, or free tickets.
