our defense played too soft. Ten yards here, fifteen there, it was just really disappointing to see Bama's defense keep attacking all night long and watch ours just play not to give up the big play. Buy hey, not giving up the big play is what we are all about right?? Bama also did something tonight that Florida did to us in September, they took Eric Berry out of the equation.

Eric berry had a few good plays but your right. They always play so far off their man is horrbile. How do you not realize it only takes 10 yards to get the first down. The other team will take what you give them. Bama didbt really have many big plays and thats great but what difference does it make if they go 100 yards in one play or 10?
Of course the defense did do a fairly decent job otherswise. If the offense could do anything then it might be a little different.

just imagine where this defense would be if it wasn't for eric berry.

it really shows what an amazing talent he is because he apparently hasn't allowed for a poor coaching staff to bring down his level of play.

Eric Berry is probably the #1 talent in college football today. Not many players, if any, can claim to be able to play so many different positions and be able to perform well at the ones he could play.

What position has he performed well at this year other than as a DB?

Overall product is bad. Get rid of johnny too. Although we all are now finding out that he is the only decent coach left on the vols staff.

Defense is not the issue. Offense was on the field for less then 7 or 8 plays in the 3rd quarter. So the D has more time on the field. They are not the issue. Get a clue.

I agree that the defense was clearly not the problem

This is the reason why in practice our QB's look ok to average but in a real game they're struggling. And why the other team's QB looks good because it's like shooting fish in a barrel compared to what they get in practice.

Defense was the least of our problems tonight. That said, does #7 know he has arms? I am sick and tired of this lazy ass tackling that involves knocking people down.

I remember the UCLA game against Craft we were off 10-15 yards. Its dumb, just dumb. I thought we had good corners...and Willingham sucks. That whole "shutdown CB" thing was BS.

I agree that overall the defense did well. However I still agree with the OP we play way to far off of the receiver.

Obviously not. Giving up 355 yards per game to our three biggest rivals isn't an issue. It may not be as big an issue as our struggles on offense (which is a MUCH bigger issue) but that's still a bunch of yards. Plus, the fact they converted 48.8% of the 3rd downs against us is another story.

Our defense played well enough for us to win every game this year except for the garbage against UCLA but if we turn one of the turnovers into 7 in that game it's not an issue.

I don't think I would disagree with that for the most part.

Bama averages 371 ypg. Considering how poorly our offense played and the fact that Bama didn't really let off the gas toward the end, we did a fairly good job. Also, Bama gained around 120 yards or so in the final 20 minutes of the game when the defense was just worn out.

I would say the clue would be when you line up Berry and Morley 15 yards off the ball thats a problem. Slade MUST go.

What was the time of possession? 3 to 1?

Our D really was good until the late 3rd and 4th, our offence decided to not care however. Combine that with a few horrible calls and ball spots.

If Fulmer goes new life will appear amoung fans and players. We need a change.

I saw two different defenses play tonight.

UT - Bend but don't break mentality.

AL - Play physical until the end.

I do agree we did a good job for the most part, but our biggest problem to date is letting the underneath receivers be uncovered and letting them get easy first downs.

Imagine that, our D gets tired late in the game because our offense can't sustain a drive...
