1. JG actually performed well for his first start. He ran the plays he was given, no major mistakes. He needs to play more.

2. John Kelly plays hard the whole game, a true VFL.

3. You are who your numbers say you are. 112th in the nation in red zone offense. Big changes to come, it cannot stay this way, there is no way to go but up.

4. Virtually no one that follows college football much less UT Vol football can see this coaching staff remaining for the 2018 season. We will be getting a new staff.

JG has a arm.. we could tell on that drive. it's pretty dumb on how we do the same plays over and over. we need to go for deep balls. butch doesn't have balls.

•JG needs to learn to keep the ball at his chest in the pocket. Twice had it swiped clean by letting it hang loose by his side.

•The game appeared to move too fast for him. He was either too quick to run, or had no concept of an internal timer, taking a few sacks where he should have run or thrown it away.

•He seemed more comfortable outside of the pocket on the run. It pretty clear that this offense needs a QB who is a threat to use his feet.

•Not a bad first start, but lots of room for improvement. He seems to habe more upside for this offense than Dormady. Not a knock on QD, but he really needs a more traditional offense like USCw or FSU.

This is the bright side .... UT ball is on everyone's mind: ESPN, Finebaum, CBS, etc. ratings have never been hirgher.

It's a Christians and lions thing.

JG is not ready to play. He is simply lost dropping back to pass. He never takes his eyes off his intended target.

He appears to execute better with less time to think. Too bad our coaches cant capitaize on that.

It was painfully obvious when USC figured out we were not a downfield threat they could go man coverage and stop our run.

JG has a high ceiling.
Ty Chandler played well.
Freshman kicker looked good.


Bout it.

John Kelly needs more than 4 carries in the second half.
5th year Butch still can’t manage a clock.
Team is a joke as a whole.


Love the guys still. They deserve better.

Here's reality regarding JG and the program.

He's not as good as Fromm, not as good as Patterson, not as good as Bentley, not as good as Hurt (or even bama backup) not as good as Mizz Qb, not as good as Shumur, not as good as Aub Qb.

Vols play all next yr except Patterson. Tough to win at Tennessee when you don't have the best qb or one very close. Vols are a long long way winning with LOS play in this league.

Are the Vols just soft, on both lines of scrimmage, or everywhere ?

It starts with the coach.......we have Ferris state to thank for the toughness......or the Band

He never threw to his receivers until the final drive when SC was playing prevent and backed off. It was running back off tackle, screen, JG keep the ball, throw it out of bounds, or take a sack. The sorriest offense I've ever seen. Here is what I see:

1. We must have the worst receivers in the SEC. They get no separation, leaving the QB--whichever one it is--on an island. He has no choice but to run it or throw a bad pass.

2. Our offensive line is pitiful for the most part.

3. This might be the worst offensive coordinator I've ever seen.

4. I actually like Butch and this staff, but it is time to pull the plug now.

My theory on JG and QD is .....both kids were 4 stars coming out. How can both players be or look this poor both at the same time? They didn't become bad overnight on their own? Point is the one common denominator is coaching. How else could 2 four star kids look like 1-2 star kids all the sudden.

I'd bet good money that both, and JG moreso that with a good QB coach, and a HC who's offense plays to their talent then we'd have competent QBs.

You don't forget how to play QB. But you are taught things that aren't right and next thing you know, you play bad.

JG had potential. Just needs better coaches around him.
