I’m planning on taking my daughter to Omaha to watch the opening games of the CWS. (No, I’m not assuming the Vols make it as this has been a bucket list item for a long time, so we’re going regardless). It would of course be extra special if the Vols make it 😀. With that said, I’d appreciate any do’s and don’ts, recommendations, places to stay, restaurants, things to do, etc. I’ve heard it’s a spectacular experience.

Ive never been to the college world series but Omaha i think is a really nice town. There is a big casino on the Iowa side of the river. I had planned on going to the CWS this year if UT made it but my spouse passed away on September 6th and has missed an incredible season so far. I really hope you go and enjoy some UT baseball while there. Go Vols.

I’m so sorry and offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your spouse. I hope his season is bringing you lots of joy.

How much are tickets? I’m sure they will escalate if Vols go!

I went in 2001 when the lively bats were at their peak and the Tennessee/Miami game set the CWS record for 9 inning game length that was set by the Georgia/USC game from earlier that day

That was at Rosenblatt

In fact, wearing the souvenir cap right now and to game tonight

I went last year, but its a 3 hour drive up from KC. Took my son on Father's Day and had a great time, even though we lost. Ballpark is downtown which is nice. There is a neat pedestrian bridge to walk over the Missouri River and a Baseball Village set up with tons of vendors for food, clothing, etc. We are planning to do it again this year and win it all this time. The Omaha Zoo is not near the ball park but definitely something to see if you have little ones.

Tickets were around $25-$30 on StubHub but that was before the Great Inflation occurred.

My son and I went last year as well. It was a great father son trip for fathers day. I splurged and got really good seats about 15 rows from the field between the Virginia dugout and home plate. Tickets were about $135 each. There were many in the $25-$30 dollar range. I will say we walked the entire stadium before the game and there are no bad seats as far as the seeing the field. The sun was brutal for the first 4-5 innings though.

We stayed across the river in Council Bluff, Iowa, at the Holiday Inn & Suite next to the Ameristar Casino. It's a 5 minute drive to the park. Room was like $235 a night I think. In Omaha they were hard to come by and as much as $850 a night and more. Granted we decided to go the day we found out the Vols were going. I told my son that we keep say one day we're going, by dam we went and I didn't care what it was going to cost. That's what credit cards are good for. We had an absolute blast. My son wants to make it a yearly event. I'm all in.

The Old Market area has a lot of restaurants, micro breweries and bars with lots of great food and entertainment. Steaks are always big on the menu. The buildings are really cool. The Old Market area is South of the stadium, South of I-480. You can park and walk the whole area. They have parking meters that you can pay with an app. It actually makes parking somewhat easy. It will also help you find your dang car if you loose it.

We found a pretty good breakfast place on West Broadway in Council Bluff called Village Inn.

We enjoyed every second of the trip except the outcome of the Tennessee game.

You better make reservations for a hotel or Airbnb early. They fill up fairly quickly. There are a lot of people who go who have no team affiliation
Thanks! Yes, already reserved hotel. Checking VRBO and Airbnb now for plan B. Had planned to go last year and had booked hotel, flights, and secured tix but had to cancel at last minute due to a very sick Mother in law. Looking forward to making it to Omaha this year.

Thanks. Yes—I was shocked how reasonable tix were on Stubhub last year but forgot how big the stadium is. Plus, losing teams unload their tix with a vengence

I went last year. It was a quick trip with a good friend of mine, who is a big MSU fan. Our teams played on the same day. I was fortunate because my friend’s cousin is a scout for the Brewers, and he was asked to work the CWS for the first time. We were able to stay just a couple of blocks away from the stadium.

First night, we ate at a brewery that, I think, was in Old Market. Hamburger was excellent. We ended up at The Blatt at the end of both nights. It’s a bar right across the street from the stadium. It’s multi-levels, and the second level is open air, and you can literally see into the stadium. It was a really fun atmosphere.

It’s a great experience and definitely a trip on the bucket list. As one poster said, you will get fans there who planned early but don’t even have a school there. Enjoy!

I have been. Do your best to find out where the teams stay and stay in one of those hotels. It makes for an amazing difference if you can pull it off. The overall experience, I have to admit, wasn't quite as life changing as folks make it out to be (but if you can ever go to the Masters- that one exceeds all expectations!), but it's a lot of fun and well worth going. Get some steak while you are there and make sure to make time to just walk around downtown- cool places to go and visit, and folks are very nice and grateful to have you there. Have fun!!!

I was a first-timer last year. Highly recommend (though I’d agree with somebody else above that I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s “life-changing”). I will definitely try to go back any year that the Vols are there. CWS + Vols = incredible father-son trip (would think that’s true at just about any age).

How you experience it (in terms of what to do, etc.) I think would depend on the age of your daughter.
