To the studio's surprise, this 1951 release went on to become one of the three best sci-fi movies of the entire decade. Bernard Herrmann (of Hitchcock fame) did the music, and was the first to use a Theramin in the soundtrack. The original (1951) holds up much better than the 2008 Keanu Reeves remake.
