Dang. Couldn't help but Google....that's a little bit of my childhood gone...I remember how he treated a kid all these years later, so lesson learned....Dyron Nix - Wikipedia Dyron Nix - Wikipedia
I remember Nix, for sure.

Made me wonder about Otis Howard. I remember playing basketball with him (more like watching, as he was awesome) at the OR civic center. Otis Howard - Wikipedia

Thought that was part of the game? We used to do it all the time.

In High School, there was a team who’s coach flashed the signals to their catcher. We knew every pitch coming.
I told my teammates I didn’t want them doing it whenever I was up. I had the same mindset as Tony Gwynn in that regard, I relied on what my own eyes were telling me and wasn’t about to take a chance on the base runner being wrong. Also, it was too distracting for me and I wanted my mind free and clear.

I was basically a cornerback playing catcher. I was just wanting someone to try to make it to homeplate without getting tagged, whether stealing or on a hit ball. And when I say "tagged," I mean it in the football kind of way. Like the pitchman on the triple option had had the audacity to run to my side. Tagged. 😂 I also thoroughly enjoyed trash talking the batters. Also, we had one pitcher who threw serious fire, and I was the only one who could catch him. Or the only one crazy enough. Looking back on it with what I've learned here, I'm worried they may have ruined the kid's arm. He was a freak. I thank goodness no one ever managed to "Hunter Ensley" me to score. I would have died! 😂 Maybe that is why I loved Ensley's play so much. Absolute magic. Impossible. I was never a great hitter.

hey @preacherman20, I just had a meeting at the district office and the guy sitting next to me noticed my UT shirt, asked if I was a baseball guy.. obviously said yes. Then he said he was Kirby’s catcher at Blacksburg for 2 years. I work at another school in the district but he’s the JV Baseball coach there now. I got his name but forgot it already, wish I was better with names.

Sidenote.. said he wasn’t a fan of Tony because of the arrogance and antics lol. He said he liked the way Arkansas and LSU play ball. Cool guy besides that.
That is interesting, the young man I just met in Michigan was a catcher. Played with Kirby, said Kirby broke his thumb while he was catching.

There is no arrogance or antics. Bruh sounds brainwashed. Arkansas has no respect for the game. They really do know how to choke, tho.

@CobbWebb71

Biloxi is coming to play the Smokies next season. The reason I mentioned it is Blake Burke got promoted to AA .. Burke will be playing for the Biloxi team..,enjoy.

52, you mean to say next week instead of next season? Because Biloxi is in town to play the Smokies this week (seems like quite a coincidence that BB happened to be promoted now...)

I’m pretty sure every school threw their best pitcher multiple times per week. That’s what we did too. But most of the pitchers I played with also played another sport during the offseason so they weren’t throwing year round. Everyone was a big proponent of the “John Smoltz” philosophy. If you were stretched out enough you could easily pitch 3 times per week. I’m not that old but it was a different time, back when pitchers threw complete games and be ready to pitch the next game of a double header too if need be.
