.....finally I have decided to buy a gaming system. I have decided on a particular system based on the recommendations of several threads on the subject.

I have not played a game since the orginal Grand Turismo (my nephews). I can remember the old Atari games and The emergence of the Arcade Games.

I have paid attention, well absorbed the medium in regards to what kind of games are out there.

My question (s). Give me your recommendations in each genera. Of the best games over the years. Maybe everybody's all time favorite games..... Also the best of what's out there now?

I'll just say this; single player gaming will be dead to you (besides the occasional amazing rpg) if you get into online multiplayer.

RPG: Mass Effect series and Fallout series. Dragon Age Origins was pretty fun too when all said and done.

Single Player First Person Shooter: Bioshock series

Online First Person Shooter: Call of Duty Series and the Left 4 Dead series. Halo is good too, albeit overrated IMO. You can probably buy 3 pretty cheap now if you don't want to pony up the cash for Halo: Reach right away.

Third Person Shooter: Gears of War series. Campaigns are really fun and the multiplayer is good too if you're willing to put up with a pretty steep learning curve online. GTA IV also deserves a mention.

Horror: Condemned, FEAR, and Resident Evil 5. All good titles

Racing: I have no idea since I don't play them much. A bunch of people are high on the Forza series, though.

Action/Adventure: Batman Arkham Asylum, the Fable Series(although a bunch of its elements fall under RPG), and I don't have a PS3...but alot of people enjoy the Drake Uncharted games.

I will point out that you're kinda limiting what people can suggest for you by not naming the system you're getting, though. Some of the games I just mentioned are 360 exclusives.

I'm selling a N64, if you want some hard core game action. I'll even throw in golden eye.

I always regret that I didn't have that system.

That's a deal at any price.

Also think about whether you are likely to get immersed in a game or just be a casual gamer. Different games will appeal to you for those reasons.

:mega_shok:

A ton of good games on that system including some classics such as the aforementioned Goldeneye. Worth dropping about $50 to get both and a couple of controllers.

It was horrible for 360. I thought it was amazing for the N64 though. I remember I couldn't play it for 3 months in middle school for making bad grades. The lowest point in my life. It would me like if you kicked me off Volnation.

Three months for bad grades? That's harsh. :)

After only playing the 360 version, I'm amazed Turok was ever good on any platform.

It was like Sonic. It was an amazing game on a Sega, but sucked on any other system. IMO, JMO
