OL starters

From what I have read, Stone needs some development to become a regular contributor. Don't know if this is the case, but maybe he will get ready soon.

RT - Dallas Thomas
LT - Aaron Douglas
LG - Jarrod Shaw
RG - J. James
C - Cody Pope

Depth = thin. Starters look OK though.

I think his biggest hinderance is his technique. There's a lot of time to work on that from now until the fall. He might get significant playing time this coming season.

T: Douglas / James
T: Schoefield / Shaw
G: D. Thomas / Fulton (or Stone)
G: Hood / Pope
C: V. Thomas / Revis

In a normal year Fulton and Stone wouldn't see the field but I don't think we have a choice at this point...

I'm not horrified by the starters but the 2nd team is pretty scary

I think this is the most legitimate post with the possible exception of James getting into the starting lineup! That is an athletic group you have starting right there, my only concern is when you need a yard or two who's going to knock someone back?

I wouldn't be surprised to see James at a guard spot although he'll be playing out of position if he does...of course...so will D. Thomas but desperate times call for desperate measures...

This may be a dumb question but what effect would it have if two players better suited for tackle (James and D. Thomas) were moved to guard out of neccesity this year?

I know moving a true guard to tackle can be disastrous but if a player is athletic enough to be a tackle would it work to move him to guard if the depth chart is as bad as ours?

You won't know until you try it.

Who do you think will start on our OL ??

for UT Martin at this point my guess is:

Douglas LT
Shaw LG
Revis C
Schofield RG
D Thomas RT

Be my guess but I don't think anyone can know fro certain. We don't knwo for certain if all of the kids lsited in OL will even be here in fall

You like Revis over Hood? Thomas seems like a better fit at guard than Schofield to me. Do you think Victor ends back up at DT?

the biggest difference in Guard and Tackle is the size and speed of the DLineman that he has to block. At Guard you are more than likely taking on a DT which can be anywhere from 20-75 lbs bigger than the DEs. Guards have to probably be stronger, although the best DT is likely to draw a double team block with the Center also helping out. A tackle moving to Guard should be okay, especially if they can bulk him up. During plays when the Guard is pulling (ie lead blocking for a back) the athelticism of a tackle should come in handy.

I do think V Thomas is going to be needed as a body at DT. we are going to need 3-4 kids that can just fall down and get in the way. VT fits that..

I based it on feedback of those giving best effort and desire. Only way to guess at it for now...

I remember Douglas was in a preseason battle with someone else for RT that lasted up until the season, I think it was shaw or pope. Either way I wouldn't be surprised to see that guy take RT while Douglas moves to LT

Shaw started over DOuglas but it was only because AD was just not ready. No one else could play the position. As soon as AD was ready, they moved Shaw to guard hoping he could fill in for Vlade who was banged up. Cory Sullins ewnded up better than Shaw or a healthy Vlade...

I'll be surprised if Shaw or Pope either one see the field.. raw freshman would be better
