Interesting to say the least....

Even though it's officially the dead period, things are hardly quiet for Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert running back David Oku.
The nation's No. 1 all-purpose back said things have gone from bad to worse with his decision. Despite being committed to Tennessee, the 5-foot-10, 186-pounder took official visits to Syracuse and Auburn recently.

"Everyone is trying to get me to pick already, but I'm not ready," Oku said. "All these coaches are making it worse by calling and trying to talk when I don't want to. This is a lot of pressure to put on one kid, and it doesn't help that I've got some family stuff going on, too."

It's gotten to the point that Oku said he wants the calls to stop.

"I'm not taking any calls," he said. "I just want the coaches to give me some space. Too much is going on for me right now."

Oku has said all along that he considers himself a Tennessee commitment, but he's backing away from that also.

"I'm not committed to anyone anymore," he said.

"I don't have any plans to sign on Wednesday. I don't know when a decision will be made. I just need some space and some time to think and sort things out. Hopefully the coaches will respect that and understand how difficult this has been.

If he does decide to come to UT, he is going to have even more pressure on him to prove himself after putting everyone through all this crap.

If he can't handle the pressure now, how in the heck does he think he can deal with the pressures of big time SEC football responsibilities. Could he deal with competing against other backs that are as good if not better than him (Creer/Hardesty)? Makes me wonder if we really want this kid or not.

please show me where it is required for a kid to sign only tomorrow if he wants to play next year.

I don't like the way he is talking anymore. Might be time to move on, this one probably got away.

oh jesus guys give the kid a break. he obviously has family troubles plaguing him right now, so chill out and let him sort things out in his head. it's hard to handle other things outside of your family circle when it is being disturbed. for a lot of people their family is the one sure thing in life and when that stability is shaken it brings with it a lot of stress. let this kid handle what is most important to him right now and then let him decide what school he wants to go to. i want this kid at UT as much as the next fan, but i also respect someone's personal life and what is most important to them.

Let's just leave the guy alone. He's a talented football player and will likely be good for someone someday. He'll either come here or he won't - Tennessee football will continue either way.

He has some issues and he wants to sort through them. Why is that hard to understand?

Kid should have never took those other visits if he didnt want other coaches calling. He should have said he was sticking with his commitment to UT & wasnt changing his mind.

doesn't someone owe it to themselves to consider all options? isn't that the smart thing to do for HIM?

why, if that wasn't the case?

The only reason he took a visit to Syracuse was because of Drayton, the only reason he went to Auburn was because of Trooper.

When he commited to us he already knew that Drayton was going to Syracuse & he had already told Trooper Oklahoma State wasnt in his plans but all of a sudden everything changes why? If he didnt want to go to Syracuse or to Auburn before Trooper then why change it after you commit?

this didn't answer my question in the least.

I agree with BigSteve & BPV - Heck, picking a college is a big decision for any kid, much less when you add the football/sports thing into the equation. AND, he may have originally gone on SU & AU visits as "courtesy" visits, but when they got him on campus, it gave him more to think about. Isn't that kinda what we're hoping has happened with Nu'Keese Richardson?!

I respect Oku and his right to think things over, but you do have to admit that he brought this on himself by looking around. With that said, he made the decisions without considering what all would happen and therefore should be given time, without the pressure, to make the best decision for HIS future, and not everybody elses.

Sure it is, but have you heard of them crying about it. I think the kid is just an attention whore, like many of these kids.

but looking around is what he felt he wanted.

I didn't say otherwise...but all this pressure is the direct result of his actions. That's all I'm saying...we all have to live with the results of our actions. It's a huge decision...probably the biggest of his life up to this point. And if he needs alone time with his family then by all means, of course. My only point was to say that he should have expected to be pressured, that's what happens when you open up your recruitment.:hi:

i have said it before and i will say it again....NSD stands for national signing day. I think these kids should have to sign on that day. IMO everyone has deadlines that they have to deal with in everyday life.

I don't know what Oku could be thinking about, He's got a coaching staff here that will build a monster of a team around him and make him a star...That is if he is willing to work hard enough and want it enough to do it....Like I said, I wish I was a highly sought high school senior right now...This UT staff would only have to ask me once.

I hope Oku signs with Auburn or Syracuse. He strikes me as a guy who will fit right in with clowns like Taylor of Drayton.

Seem's like he waiting to see if we get Hardy or Lacy. He may be afraid of a little competition!
