I'm ready for a new coach, this is getting embarrassing. But it better be someone proven or we're gonna be in this same position we are now imo. Sorry but I won't believe the Gruden rumors untill he's behind the podium wearing an orange tie. Too many swing and miss rumors around here to believe anything untill its official.

I only know this : Gruden makes 1 mil per yr now, we could pay 4. HIs wife is from Clinton or Harriman and has relatives around K Ville. He used to coach at UT. Those are all true. Maybe we could get him. I think Dan Mullen would come if asked, and I like Bobby Petrino ( not as a person) as a coach. We could have had Bud Kelly when that a-hole of a AD hired that spacey Kiffin guy. What a mistake that was.

From what I've read he makes a little over $4 million a year.

We have got to do it right this time, no doubts, no unprovens.

WE cant go lower than these last 2 years. This schiess would have been considered not possible even 5 years ago. Time for an upgrade- Dooman is on so much pain meds that it was probably a positive for UT today. He didnt do as much stupid things as usual. HOw about our secondary- what a bunch lock-down corners and viscious sure tacklers!

A new coach also needs to clean house and bring in his own staff. Although I would be fine with them keeping Graham!

I dont know for sure, but 4 mill per years to do MNF? That sounds like way too much to me- I cant remember where I read it now, but I am almost sure that MNF pays "only" about a mil/ year. Where does the rest originate?

What do you mean you are in? You were still on the fence? Look you could get Dave Clawson to run this team the last three years and have more wins, in fact they might.

I was a Lambda Chi at ETSU back in the mid to late 80's, and one of my frat brothers that I'm very good friends with to this day is the brother in law of Jon Gruden, he told me just last weekend that it was possible he would take the job if he were given "complete control" of the football program, just like Saban at Bama. Anyway, he said the percentage chance he would take the job was up to 75%, if the circumstances were right, etc.. He didn't say it would happen for certain but I found it interesting and I was also told Peyton Manning and Kenny Chesney, also a frat brother back in the day, were pressuring him to take the job, if offered. Anyway, my frat brother didn't say it would happen for sure, but I found it interesting to discuss.

I started to make this a new thread, but I really don't understand all the Gruden love. He won a super bowl at Tampa Bay with Dungy's players. After that they went down hill, and many of the players did not like him. I know this because we were living in Tampa during that time, and that was well known. He's never coached a college game in his life either , but yet so many of you seem to think he would be great here. Why?

Sir/Madam: I respect your opinion about Gruden but I'm also a big time Raiders fan, and in my opinion, Gruden would have beat Tampa Bay in that SB, if he had not left due to Al Davis, with the Raiders. As for his ability to coach on the collegiate level, I don't know but he did win a SB, and I think that counts for something, plus I understand he loves UT and has a lot of respect for the history and tradition of Vols football.

You want to know why we need Gruden? He brings instant credibility to the program and UT will be able to recruit nation wide. UT will instantly be in the recruiting mix on the top athletes in the country.

He's not going anywhere until SF wins a superbowl, but he would be 100 times better than Gruden lol.

I think it may be the best chance to get him now. He was still with Tampa when Kiffin was hired and he needed a break and the roster was not good when Dooley came. He has had enough time off and we have talent. It would be instant credibility. I just like his passion- I think it fits the college game even though he has never coached in college. I also heard that he made 4.3 million a year. I say offer him 6 million and let him have control. Make his wife happy to be home.

I respect your opinion also, and I love UT, etc. But know I am not qualified to coach them. :p. I just think that there's a difference in coaching college vs the nfl, and since he's never done that, he just would not be my first choice. My thought is that if we cannot go out and get a proven coach that can win here, and win now, we may as well keep CDD. Btw I'm a madam. :p

Lol, I'm definitely not qualified to coach either! :) Yes, I believe if we are going to make a coaching change, then we need to make sure it is the right hire, and someone who is a proven winner. If we can't get the candidate we want for the job, then we need to consider that before we possibly get rid of Coach Dooley. If a change is going to be made, then I would hope that Dave Hart would already be doing the appropriate research in that area. Anyway, nice to meet you.. :hi:

Gruden reminds me of way better sal. I LOVED sal before we started the season. His no BS attitude and yelling got me hype. Gruden has a no BS personality, so.....doesnt mean he can coach college players well. Saban wins. Get a college coach that is a proven winner, pay him for it, then UT's back.

His brother in law told me that he did not want to work for Mike Hamilton, so with his departure that removes that obstacle, if he actually gets offered the job. Also, I believe you are correct in relation to the monetary figure of $4.3 million per year that he makes currently at ESPN.
