WTF has happened to these two? Hefney was a head hunter last year...now all he is catching is air. And Mayo...I understand he is at a new position this year, but the middle linebacker is supposed to be the badass...I don't get it. We can discuss coaching changes and all, but players need to STEP IT UP! Especially our veteran players.

Hefney has proven to be one of the most overrated players in the country so far.

Yeah, they do need to step it up. I think Chavis should teach the entire defense what tackling is supposed to look like, but I think they would laugh watching him.

I guess with his performance last year, I was really expecting him to be the backbone of our secondary...what gives?

I'm glad somebody said this. These guys are supposed to be special players.

One was pre-season AA ad the other was pre-season All-SEC.

But...IMO...the bigger question here is...where is the leadership from these two?

Our D is just an all around joke right now and it starts with these two "leaders"...and Chavis

Mayo is still trying to adjust to MLB so I can't place too much blame...but Hefney, my God...wtf happened.

Hefney knows he's had 2 bad games against the only 2 good offenses he's played this year.

Do you really think he's played well this year?

I think Hefney read the papers and believed the hype. I read a couple of quotes from him before the season that he was going to dominate and show our younger players how to play. Maybe he should go back to corner. He sure can't tackle well enough to be a safety.

Mayo has no excuse. He played MLB some last year when Mitchell was hurt, and has practiced there since spring. He should be comfortable with his "new" position by now. These guys have been the biggest disappointments on our team so far IMO. I'm trying to understand how they have gotten worse since last year. :hmm:

What kills me is that Hef never attempts to wrap up. He just throws his shoulder at a guy. In Peyton's day I called those "Tennessee Tackles" cause our whole D was trying to do it. I guess we brought the practice back. At least he is trying to hit somebody, that is more than I can say for the kick coverage.

the old saying if it aint broke dont try to fix it
as far as hefney and mayo they shhould have left
them where they were.

I'm glad someone here finally sees the real problem. Missed plays on both sides of the ball. Our guys have been in position and just haven't made plays.
