My apologies if this has been covered.
What are your thoughts about last nights officiating.
I actually thought it was really bad. Just because we won doesn't mean anything. That level of poorness can affect a SEC game drastically.
1. Multiple no calls for holding and low hits against Akron.
2. Multiple opportunities to remove the chippiness by just giving a warning.
3. Touch calls against the Vols all night, even the announcers had to say it Multiple times.
4. Akron played past the whistle all night. I love physical play but call it both ways.
5. This is opinion but I felt like they chose not to throw flags on Akron because of the score.

Give me your thoughts. The SEC has had poor officiating in the past. I would think they would address it to avoid the conspiracy theories but they simply haven't.
Officials missing calls are not my issue. Officials missing many calls is a problem that should not be ignored.

It is my understanding that SEC officiating has let in officials from other conferences due to turnover. To say that some are sub par is an understatement. Pitiful calls last night plus the sound system for officials was horrible. I had to talk to students across the aisle who had access to student WiFi and could find out what was going on.

INT calls against McCoy and the roughing the passer on Beasley were pure BS. Awful calls.

The game was just sloppy, and LONG, which leads to more issues.

The first quarter took almost an hour, I looked at my watch as the 2nd quarter was starting and it was after 8

Totally sissy fied officiating. No way that was roughing the passer I've been hit harder getting a hug. A couple of other calls just kept them with possession and kept us from scoring more.

Could definitely be my bias, but I felt like the refs protected Akron’s QB a lot more than Hooker. That was my biggest issue with them. If you’re gonna do that at least be consistent both ways.
Was one of my thoughts as well I said in another thread. It is one thing to be bad, but be color blind then and be bad both directions. It felt like they were trying to support Akron like giving them a golf handicap or something.

I think it is when it comes to QBs in the pocket.

True, that's for a QB in the pocket in a passing posture. It's a relevant when it comes to wide receivers. I assumed OP was talking about the tackle on Tillman.

Was there a logical explanation given on TV or radio for why that one kickoff wasn’t called a safety when the guy stepped out of the endzone and then back in then took a knee? Heupel lost it over that and I was at the game so not sure if the non call was justified or not.

They said the ball didn’t cross the goal line.

I don't remember this head ref being apart of really poor officiating. Am I wrong? Although he is the one standing near the QB. I didn't think it was too bad. Perhaps they were Akron get by with stuff since they sucked so badly. I know he was ticked over that OL.

I watched a Akron defender punch Thomas about 4 times as he was being dragged down, I'm sure the refs watched that too, at least Calloway was slapped first.
I saw Omari and an Akron team talking back and forth I think third quarter? Omari just walked away from him.. and Herring had to do his hand like ‘go on with you’ lol That was the most smack talking game I have ever seen 😂

I was kinda baffled on a kickoff. The return guy obviously stepped into the field of play, retreated to the end zone and was given the ball on the 25. I called it the Gimme 3 steps rule, a nod to Skynyrd. Those more informed could probably explain why that was allowed. I thought after you step out of the end zone into the field of play you had to live with your decision.
