Typically do one of these every year around this time, but for those that are new or not familiar with it here’s what this is. As we head towards March obviously there will be tons of interest in the hoops team and what seed they are potentially looking at getting, who we should be rooting for to win/lose and how that will impact Tennessee, along with posting updated bracket projections etc etc. In years past under Tyndall, and Cuonzo or early Barnes a lot of times this was a bubble watch thread where it was a matter of rooting for the right teams to win or lose so hopefully we’d make the dance, thankfully Barnes has elevated this program to where now we aren’t really having to worry much about that most years and simply looking at The higher end of seed lists.
So to kind of recap and set the stage, I use bracketmatrix.com for posting the seed list here, for those not familiar they’re a website that compiled currently 79 brackets but as March gets closer it will be over 100+ brackets, they take that info and give you the average. So rather than looking at just 1 person like a Joe Lunardi (who historically isn’t very accurate), they give you what is typically a much more accurate picture. Their website also has rankings for the best bracketologists if you’re curious about where some of the better ranked folks have us etc. So with that said, Tennessee is a 2 seed in the 6th overall spot on the seed list in their most updated bracket. I typically won’t include a whole seed list because what’s happening at say 11seed spot isn’t likely to impact us being up around a 2 seed, right now per Team Rankings we project to be a 5 seed or better at 99%, so I’ll post seed list to include teams 1-20 which will cover 1-5 seeds. As we hopefully win then that can shrink down, but this far out there can obviously be a lot of movement still, but here goes the first edition of 2023:
1. Purdue
2. Alabama
3. Houston
4. Kansas
5. UCLA
6. Tennessee
7. Texas
8. Arizona
9. Kansas State
10. Gonzaga
11. Iowa State
12. Xavier
13. Virginia
14. Connecticut
15. Marquette
16. Baylor
17. TCU
18. Miami
19. Auburn
20. Rutgers
