Official Rick Byrd Thread

They prefer them because of one 4-letter word....CASH :eek:lol::eek:k::dance2:

No. Sorry, you're wrong. Older guys' brains have finally engaged, and they are more likely to have their priorities straight.

My experience, anyway. :)

ANYWAY, I have to say that I'm starting to see a lot of advantages in hiring Byrd. I seriously doubt that he'll be trying to play us off against another team for more $$$, he's stable, he knows how to coach, and I can see him quietly doing all the groundwork necessary (a clue: this will take some years) to turn UT into a basketball school in addition to being a football school.

Everyone wants quick results and Final Fours, when in fact, we don't have that foundation in place. Yes, we had Mears and Pearl, and thank goodness for that, but they were exceptions, not the rule.

Let's start building this program from a solid basis and become a consistent, winning hoops power. I'm tired of all this OMG OMG we have to find someone who will get us winning tomorrow crap. Real world, it doesn't work that way. :hi:

No one is saying he isn't a great coach. But with age and the level he's been coaching at his whole career. He's just not the right fit for here. Would I be mad if we got him? No, but there are better fits for us out there than him.
:lolabove:

Old you got any Idea how old coach K is ? 67 and Byrd is 61 .. However Byrd himself said UT probably would want someone younger . But considering the time a coach comes and goes at UT .
