'25 Official pregame/game thread ‘25 Music City Bowl vs Illinois

Thankfully, that abomination is over. This is why I don't go to bowls anymore.

That defense can't be remodeled. It will have to be burned down, bulldozed, the dirt under it dug up and taken to a hazardous waste facility, and completely rebuilt. Not sure that can be accomplished in one year.

Fire them all but RG.
Doesn’t RG coach our edge players that couldn’t set the edge ALL season?

Where's he going to school? Wish him the best.
Appreciate it! Glenville state university. Was a **** show of a year to say the least. No home field bc they are building a new 50M stadium and facility, so every game was an away game. They just fired the HC, but have virtually an entire staff of WVU assistants taking over, feeder school vibes. Praying for a good 2026 season!

I'm not convinced we need to go status quo with RG either. The DL likes to disappear a lot in big games. No one likes to acknowledge it. Idk if it's scheme or it's falling on deaf ears. Knowles should be able to replace anyone he wants. Not saying he doesn't want Rodney but we don't need to force it imo
RG doesn't call the defense. If they tell him to rush three, he rushes 3. If they tell him to stunt, they stunt. If they tell him to zone blitz and drop a 270# dl to cover the slot reciever, he does that. RG hasn't forgot how to coach technique. I do think he was limited on personnel this year. They need to spend some money on the defense.

What a sh*tshow. Both sides of the ball. Didn't break 300 yards on offense. Defense gave up over 400. It's honestly sad that we just watched that in year 5 under Heupel. This season has to be a wake up call. They have to go all-in on the portal to boost this roster and Heupel needs to revamp some things off the field. This team just never looked well coached this entire season. Illinois was the better team purely based on their guys playing smarter. I think we've also watched this team regress throughout the season. We're lucky to be 8-5, and that's obviously better than what we experienced during the down years, but we honestly should be a lot better than this in year 5 under Heupel. Glad he hired Knowles...hope that works out great...but this program needs more than just a great DC.

This is why we once need patience once again and why I don’t think Heupel needs to be on the hot seat next year, maybe warm. Yes it’s on him that he kept Banks around so long. The offseason should show us what kinda coach he really is.

I dont think its warm, but I definitely think this is eye opening. You have to remember these bowls are meaningless. Practice for next year.

Why are our highly rated players not panning out? Why are we getting whipped at LOS?

With all the GLARING needs, why does it seem we are not in on any big names?

If Heupel doesnt come out guns blazing in this porthole, it will be a huge red flag.

The time for excuses is over.
His seat should definitely be warm considering what he's paid. This was supposed to be a down year, but this team did what every team he's fielded here does it faded, got exposed. Didn't get better. And with a young team that's not what you expect to happen.

I don't really think it matters who he brings in as pieces, because they don't really develop until year two anyway..... Save Aguilar, he's the exception to that rule. There's example after example of players not developing to contribute until year two.

Our high school commits haven't had a great track record save wr this year. I don't see any drastic changes to that dynamic happening. Though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Defense needs to be torn down and completely rebuilt. I'm not sure there's pieces I want starting for me anywhere on our current D. It's going to take two years to get the defense back to upper third respectability.

Save the young wr's I don't see a lot to be positive about next year. This roster has been horribly managed/developed, especially on defense. But offensively there's been some issues, particularly with the line and some of the QB problems. That's on Heupel, Nico ultimately falls on him. But his offense is proving to be very predictable, give D coordinators more time and they figure it out. Just watch the arch of this year. Defenses started to figure out what we were doing and jumped all over it.

The future ain't looking that bright. He's failed to change the narrative again. And it's going to get more and more difficult to stay punching with the heavyweights until he does.
