Since today's results make it readily apparent that it is a matter of if, not when, that Fulmer and his Big 10 doppleganger will be unemployed, I though I would show them respect by dedicating this thread to their respective professional demises.

because of the nature of the loss and who he lost to, Lloyd Carr is a few days closer to walking the Green Mile than CPF is. That could change in three weeks though, or even one week if UT is still hungover and overlooks Southern Miss.

Unfortunately, Michigan will probably fix their problem long before UT does.

I don't know if having the media in Michigan's corner is a blessing or a burden for Lloyd Carr. They get a top 5 preseason ranking every year, which is good for them, but then Carr disappoints on an annual basis. Maybe if the media hated Michigan, like they do Tennessee, then nationwide expectations wouldn't be as high and he wouldn't be under so much pressure...

Tressel has destroyed Loyd Carr. The media had nothing to do with it.

Very true, Tressel is far superior. But think back to the 90's when Spurrier was the Tressel to Fulmer's Carr (still is if you ask me). I don't remember as many people calling for Fulmer's head as there are calling for Carr's (even before the App State debacle).

What's interesting is that I've always hated Michigan with a passion because they were so overrated, but now I realize that they're just the Big Ten's version of Tennessee--perennially loaded with talent but unable to win a game of any importance.

Ok, I'm going to throw this out there as flame bait. No one is talking about the fact that Arky State actually put up a good fight against #4 Texas. Not that I think it will happen, but IF Tennessee loses to a good Southern Miss team (certainly possible based on last night's game), loses to Florida in the swamp (probable), and loses to Arky State to open the season 0-4...who is coaching the team against UGA?

Phil is not very likely going down in the next few years. We are still fighting for 9 wins every year, unless he voluntarily steps down.

Guys at a university such as tennessee. We as fans deserve better. We go through the offseason waiting on football season. Then we come out and do thing same thing every year.It is time for people to stop living in the past.1998 is a long time ago. That is also the last time i saw a tennessee team that was fundamentally sound.I can't bring up 01.That team was sloppy also.Phil needs to do us all a favor and retire. That way it doesn't get as ugly as the johnny majors thing. This thing isn't getting any better,Neither is the team. This coaching staff is stale. No fresh ideas just the same ole same ole.Year in and year out.Hell i guess phil will now fire john chavis, the equipment manager, the guy at the concession stand, the ball boy,the guy who runs him his krispy kremes in the morning.Ah wait a minute the krispy kreme guy is safe what am i thinking. I love the vols and i hate to lose.Cal was better than us tonight, give them props. But we also saw the same things that have been getting us beat on a regular basis and that's disturbing.

CPF will not be fired. I will say this. That was about as poor of a defense that I have seen UT field in a very, very long time. It seems our defense has gotten worse a couple years in a row now. Very disappointed.

The kick coverage was also an area of concern. It seemed like Cal was consistently getting the ball between the 35 and 40 on kickoffs. Maybe they can slip a lead shank in Lincoln's shoe or something.

new year, more of the same from the pundits. Whatever you guys. I don't care who is coaching next year. I want to see a little more of the season before I consider this team worthless.

The change in kickoff rules really hurts us.

As for Michigan, at least we lost to a ranked team on the road. While I'm disappointed, not huge shame in that.

The more worrisome point is that we just don't have a great team. Good players for years... mediocre production out of those players. And what the heck is going on with our D-line? It was a strength for years... last year and currently they pretty much stink.

Fulmer will not be coaching the team if we start 0-4. But I dont think it will be that bad. Still, 2-2 looks probable and it wont be pretty.

Did I miss the season already? Is it December? That is awesome ski season started already! w00t...........give me a break it is one game. If you based the rest of our season of the first game last year then you would have been way off. Let it play out before you blow up the ship.

Well hat, if Fulmer was calling plays on defense I would agree with you.

I agree with you but I couldn't take any encouragement away from last night. The running game was a major disappointment. We had no pass rush and our tackling was abyssmal.

I will say the team had character. They could have folded the tent a lot earlier than was the case.

Take away Phil's awesome O-line giving up a free shot on Ainge in the first series and then Phil's mastery of special teams.... now what happens? We're tied with the Bears. Honestly, I'd say if we'd been able to keep them from returning the ball to the 40 every time we would have won.

It doesn't matter where you start, it matters where you end up. Our running box wasn't even close to full when they ran the ball and when it was no one stayed at home in their gaps long enough to do anything about the run. BTW, no one we will play this year other than maybe Florida has that much speed on special teams.

Special teams have been a problem for at least five years. Fulmer has tried to fix it. He can't. It's not like UT doesn't have any speed.
