Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Excellent posts and info guys. My HS class was 1995...the last years of the 302 mustangs were my 10th grade year in 93...i know those cars are classics now..ha ...sadly..and make half the hp of the new ones..but i would love to have a 302 trunk car. I am sure you can get 1 cheap, but unless it was recently restored, which would make it not cheap...it would need a new engine, transmission/clutch, interior, paint, everything. To me, they are still very pretty cars, especially the silver cop versions. Would love, love, love to have one. Anyway, thanks for sharing info guys...i dont know if all my buddies believed a myth or if the NC patrol cars really were 351s..one of my buddies in HS had a 302 with a paxton super charger though, and it was very fast with over 400hp. Only car ive ever ridden in that could break the tires loose going into 4th somewhere around 100mph...granted, they were street tires, and i am sure werent as good as tires today. It was still crazy to hear it though and feel the back of the car slide sideways spinning when doing twice the speed limit.

There is a nice red notchback on Ebay right now for $25,200 with 37,000 miles.

Almost 100% of the police cars were notchbacks, with a trunk, not a hatchback. The square looking one. With a 5.0 liter, they weighed 3035 pounds. The hatchback weighed 65 more pounds. The GT another 90 over that. None came with a 351. If you saw that, it was added later. The police cars had the Special Service Package, or SSP. It included a reinforced floor pan, higher rated, certified speedometer, inside trunk release, oil cooler, and a couple other things that I can't remember.
They had bigger alternators and more cooling also for the long idle time usage cases and lights and radios.

I went and looked up the Windsor stroker info hadn’t looked at it in a long time. A 302 can be stroked out to a 331 or 347. A 351 has a taller deck height with I believe same bore and could be stroked out to 393, 408, or 427 I think were the common displacements.

Actually 1995 was the last year of the 302 Mustangs. 😬 The 94 and 95 Mustangs still had 302’s. The 95 Cobra was a 302. Those are the first years for the SN95 platform. The 96’s were the first years for the SN95 platform with the “mod motors” which was the nickname for the new Ford OHC modular component engine family. My 96 Cobra engine is a dual OHC 4 valve 4.6L design with lineage to the 93 Mark VIII Lincoln. They are very similar engines.

Oh and if I were in your shoes I’d do a notchback with a 383 or 408 stroker, put a McCleod clutch and bell housing, Tremec TKO 5-speed, aluminum drive shaft, and 3.55 gears. If you’re gonna drive it everyday don’t gear it to death. And those 408 cubes need legs to run. Would be over 500 rwhp and quick as **** thru a goose. Will need to stiffen the chassis with welded subs and consider an internal cage to add further stiffening. The Foxes were flexible flyers. I remember watching a notch back launch so hard he popped the passenger door open due to unibody flex 😂

@marcusluvsvols take a look at these pics. A cowl induction hood (two degrees shown here. Don’t get carried away just use what you need) on a notchback with 95 Cobra R rims (bottom pic blue stang) is a work of art. One of the cleanest looks on a pony car ever done.

Here’s a pic of my first midlife crisis at our old house. Still has original rims on it. Current rims are AR Torq Thrust D replicas in full porno chrome with 9.5” on the front and 10.5” on the back. I’m running 315 Nitto 555R DRs on the rear. Need to do an updated pic...
