Short! Two digit midgets!

Happy Memorial Day.

That’s funny. I might start calling the twins that. I’m not even sure what a Two digit midget is, but it’s sounds so funny it has to be offensive. I’m definitely calling the twins “Two digit midgets”, there’s two of em.

My best advice is to remember the good times.

94 days.........

On October 27, 1928, one week after Gene McEver returned the opening kickoff for a TD vs Bama, the other “Touchdown Twin” of “Hack and Mac” fame did the same thing vs Washington & Lee. Buddy Hackman returned the opening kickoff 94 yrds for a TD and scored another TD in the Vols 26-7 victory over the Generals. Hackman was a 2x All-Southern selection in ‘29 and ‘30.

When I was stationed in Germany ('76-78) the desired situation was to be "short". Everyone knew how many days they had before the ETSd back to "the world". A guy might blurt out "150 days" only to be shot down by another exhorting "99 days! Short! in fact, I'm so short I'm a two digit midget!"! - a claim that would result in the !ifting of steins and nods of approval. We had no interneck. But, we had fine beer, wine, and kick ass stereos.

93 days............

On August 31, 2012, Corderralle Patterson made his debut as a Vol vs. NC State in Atlanta. He had 2 carries for 72 yrds including a 67 yrd TD, and 6 receptions for 93 yrds and a 41 yrd TD in the 35-21 UT victory.

I was there. Other than an angry fat guy dressed in black who threw his shoulder into my wife as she waited at the entrance to our aisle for folks who were exiting, it was a fine time. Security warned the angry fat man in black, and his seat neighbors managed to keep him in check so that he wasn't removed. Though all the Vols scores were at the other end of the field, we had a grand time, overall.

I’ve heard my brother talk about being short when he was in the Army. I did not catch the reference at all.

In 1969, Tennessee finished the season 9-2 and ranked #15. They were led by Curt Watson, Steve Kiner, and first year starting QB Bobby Scott. Scott had 191 passing attempts with 92 completions for 1352 yrds and 14 TDs. Scott would win 20 games in two seasons as a starter and a perfect 11-0 in Knoxville.60EEAD25-8A3D-4BC4-BCC8-10C3963AD8EC.png
