As far as he is the next head coach at texas.....post some proof....espn is not the word, they are the press...as some would say the pulse. Post something from texas, something concrete on that fact, a texas paper, saying something like that, otherwise it is all crap, and if you believe everything espn says, then you are misled. I believe espn, only when the game is over and they are reporting (fact)

until then lets focus on the next head coach for the vols.

How about...

Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Texas Longhorns’ Will Muschamp now coach-in-waiting
Dallas Morning News - Muschamp move keeps Longhorns family together
Sports Illustrated - Muschamp to take over Texas when Brown retires
Fox Sports - Muschamp to take over Texas when Brown retires
Houston Chronicle - Muschamp to succeed Brown as UT head coach

I wish Tennessee was brazen enough to protect their coaches, This is nothing but a poker play in an attempt to protect a coach....watch and see.

I stand corrected, I eat crow....I did not see that coming but it is a great way to hire a new coach, seamless transition into a program he knows. I think he will do well at Texas, he is already familiar with the ropes, but coming to another school being untested would have been a chance....I just hope and pray we get someone great.

These guys on this list are WEAK,...why do we need a coach from Mich. St. - LOSER school & football teams. This list has either guys who have never done anything well or for very long. Most of em' on the list aren't gonna leave where they are or are on the NFL. Gruden could be a good fit, but he is making mega-mega bucks vs. what UT could give him. My other favorite, Chris Petersen isn't a good fit for Tennessee because he is a west coast guy and I feel would have a hard time adjusting to the Southeast Culture & style of football.

Better fits and equal the big splash catagory would be, Jim Harbaugh (mid-westerner, NFL exp. & we could keep Chavis), or Jim Leavitt (knows Florida recruiting), or Randy Edsall (knows Florida recruiting, NFL exp.) - those guys have proven records, skills and are BIG SPLASH hires.

Didn't Saban coach at Michigan State? I'm not saying this other coach is a "Saban," but Saban's no loser. Someone send me a message when there's real proof of who is coming to Tennessee. The speculation spectrum is old hat.

Its all speculation! The longer it draws out the more names that will be thrown out there. Come first week of December they will be more coaching spots available to have to compete with. I think Tennessee is the place to be, but like many have said its alot easier to win at Clemson than Tennessee and the money will be close to the same.

Established coach
1. Jeff Bower – Southern Miss (I know he got let go from U. of Southern Miss (16yrs!), but it wasn’t ever released why he got let go, the team wasn’t bad, the way I understand it, he wasn’t buddies w/the AD?)
2. Randy Edsall - U Conn (I hate U Conn)
three. Jim Leavitt - South Florida

May not want leave current job
4. Pat Hill - Fresno State
5. Jim Grobe – Wake Forest
6. Chris Petersen - Boise State (could he fit-in the South?)

These guys would help UT keep Chavis, IT COULD HAPPEN!!!
7. Jim Harbaugh - Stanford
8. Jason Garrett - Dallas Cowboys - (I know he won't leave Dallas)
9. Major Applewhite - Bama (I know he is too young & inexperienced)

Final Destination Candidate – gives a cushion to Phil leaving, a hire like this would help avoid a whole decade of SUCK!... ala Bama
10. Jerry Moore – Appy State (Dale Jones is on his staff, Jerry only has less than 5 yrs. in him,...but he is an established leader w/Natl. Championship exp. - those w/less exp. would not want to follow Fulmer, the 2-5 yr. cushion would allow for some time before we made our Urban Meyer-like hire, I’m suggesting this in lew of a Zook-like accident)
11. Marty Schottenheimer - ultra long-shot

Coaching Accomplishments
• The 2006 offense was balanced with 2,480 rushing yards and 2,682 passing yards. Three different running backs logged 100-yard games and QB Paul Thompson put up numbers that ranked among the top 10 in school history for passing yards, touchdown passes, and completion percentage. OU ranked No. 19 nationally in scoring offense; No. 17 in rushing offense.
• The 2005 line produced consensus All-Big 12 pick Davin Joseph as Adrian Peterson again eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards. Three freshmen were integrated as starters.
• In 2004, the line, featuring Outland winner Jammal Brown and Walter Camp All-American and Rimington Award finalist Vince Carter, cleared the way for Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson's 1,925 rushing yards while allowing a Big 12-low nine sacks.
• The 2004 Sooners, featuring Wes Sims, a sixth-round draft choice by the Chargers, and All-Big 12 pick Joseph, were No. 8 in total offense and averaged 34.8 points.
• The 2003 team ranked No. 3 nationally with 42.9 points/game and No. 19 with 439.4 yards of total offense/game.
• In 2002, the line had four honorees as Quentin Griffin fell 13 yards shy of OU's season rushing record.
• As Northwestern's offensive coordinator, the 2001 Wildcats led the Big 10 in total offense and QB Zac Kustok was conference leader in that same category.
• In 2000, Northwestern set 25 school marks while ranking No. 3 nationally in total offense. The co-Big Ten champs were led by Damian Anderson, who rushed for a Big Ten record 193.6 yards per game.
• Finalist for the 2000 Broyles Award.
• Has helped produce 14 1,000-yard rushers. At OU, both Peterson (1,925 yards in 2004, 1,024 in 2005) and Griffin (1,884 yards in 2002) worked under Wilson.

So, I'll begin by saying, I've never done drugs, unless lots of beer counts...That said, I'm tempted to ask what some of you guys are smoking if you think hiring an OC with no HC experience makes more sense than hiring a man who, in his second year at a school that previously has accomplished exactly nothing in football, ever, has them one game away from a BCS bowl...And he's done it with very weak recruiting classes, which means he develops players. He's won at every school he has coached at; he's turned the program around, completely, at every school he's coached at. And if you point to his weak recruiting classes at Cincinnati, please note that his first class was about twenty spots better than what they'd ever had prior to that. It's just asinine to say this guy isn't a great coach; it's unbelievable, and dense. To take a team that's never done squat in football, to a BCS bowl in your second year? The only way to beat that is to win the NC in your second year - and Meyer did that with top-five talent, at his top-tier school, not at the school he came from before that. I think there's more than one good option out there, but all you dufuses screaming that Kelly would be a bad hire need to just put down the crack pipe, go play in the tall weeds for a while, and come back once the hire is done so you don't have an adverse effect on it (which is highly unlikely, but even stupid voices get heard sometimes).

Yeah, ya ever watch a Kentucky or FSU game? Succeeding Bowden and Brooks is what they talk about 50% of the time. If they televise the UT/Kentucky game, I promise you that it will be mentioned. Also Randy Sanders will be mentioned 5,274 times as UT's former, former OC.

But, to get back on point, my vote is for Leach or the Boise State guy, whatever his name is.

I'm with you. I still like Leach as next UT HC and would love to have Chavis stay as DC. Chris Peterson in number 2 in my book.

Hey Walt,...those players up in Cincy aren't even his,...so he is a HC at a sorry little basketball school,...he hasn't proven himself up to SEC EAST level. What is so hard about having a list w/guys who have really ACCOMPLISHED something? This isn't the 2008 Prez. Election, we need somebody w/a REAL resume.

Is there some big reason why no one is mentioning Whittingham at Utah...all he's done is keep Utah at the top! 12-0 this year and headed to either the Sugar, Fiesta, or Orange Bowl...at Utah...NUMBER SIX in the BCS at UTAH! Why is he not considered in the mix?

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity with this terrible economy to get two great coaches to help this team dominate again at bargain basement prices.

Instead we are looking at punks.

First we need to steal Kevin Wilson from Oklahoma before someone else does. This will guarantee us an SEC Championship in 3 years and a National Title in 5.

If we can, bring back Trooper immediately for Offensive Coordinator.

Put Kevin Wilson up for discussion before someone else nabs him and we look like idiots.

If we pick Lane I will puke, he is no Saban or Meyers, he is just a young punk.

Saying we should get TT as our OC kinda ruins all of your credibility.
