Offensive line / Running game

The line was pathetic last night, but when there WAS a hole Foster was not getting there in time. That's when you need someone with more of a burst, and you bring in Hardesty and/or Creer. Shoddy line play doesn't excuse the fact that Foster was also having a hard time hitting the hole. They were both struggling.

Agreed. Foster just didnt have the burst. There were a couple of instances where he just got clipped by a defender and fell down. its either feast or famine with him. He is not a game changer...well, his fumbles change games, but thats another thread.

O-line play is average at best. However, I think we could do better at RB. Foster does not have what it takes to get the extra yards. He continually tries to make cutbacks in places where there is no room. His field vision is poor. Hardesty runs hard sometimes, and then others he tries to avoid contact and spin. I would like to see Creer or Poole with more carries.

That is about the worst performance i have ever seen out of a Tennessee offensive line. Stephens to me looked ok when he had time to throw but he was being pressured a ton. And our running game looked terrible. And the Herrera kid is not an all-america candidate I am sorry but has looked terrible this year. We were actually lucky to win because when it was 13-9 NIU over threw a receiver deep that was open.

You are absolutely correct, in my opinion. We are very fortunate to have had more points at the end of the game....

I found this little stat on another board. Our experienced "O" Line out-weighed the Huskie "D" Line by an average 43lbs per man.

Quotes after the game...

Huskie DL, "we were able to use our speed and move past the bigger offensive linemen that couldn't move as well and keep up with us. Our coaches had a really set us up with a good plan".

Is it my imagination or has Foster gotten slower with age? Or what is it? He was caught from behind too many times.

You're right...I guess we can't accuse him of "quick"....slow and running east/west.

How can so many be so wrong about our OL? Pegged to be a team strength and one of the better in the conference and the nation, yet we get outplayed against a DL that we have a 45lb. per man advantage. I questioned the perception myself that this OL was really all it was touted to be coming into the year, particularly at running the ball. One would think a former OG and OL coach for many years would take great pride in ensuring that this part of the team would always be a stellar unit. This OL has talent, as does the running backs, but, where are the results? Why do we always ask these same questions about seemingly talented players?

I think our O-Line is not very "athletic". They made it more obvious last night based on their performance against both UAB and Northern Ill. Undersized and quicker D-Line seemed to be the Achilles heel of this O-Line.

I just posted this on another topic and here it is again. Quotes from a Huskie DL...

"We were able to move and use our speed against the bigger offensive linemen that couldn't move as well and keep up with us. Our coaches really set us up with a good plan".

An interesting Stat - Our "O" line outweighed their "D" line by an average of 43lbs.

No push = No good.

I guess they listened to all the hype, while Ainge and Cutcliffe made them what they are.

Can't get a push against a middle-of-the-road MAC team doesn't bode well for the season. The most overrated unit in the conference.

The NIU scheme wasn't only about size. From what I am reading and hearing apparently it was about loading the box and forcing the the new QB to beat them over the top. Stephen's was up to the challenge.

The o-line was supposed to be the one area where we did not have to worry about. That's changed, that whole line looked horrible.

I am not sure the Georgian D-Line fits that profile.
