This year is starting out like many others in the past 10 years in that we are hearing great things about the o-line from practice. The only problem is that more times than not, those lines have underperformed based on expectations.

The other thing that worries me about the o-line is that there were at least two bad snaps tonight and if I'm not mistaken they were both McNeil. I could be wrong, but if true it's concerning to me.

We aren't good enough to overcome big mistakes like that, or penalties for that matter.

Man, I hate hearing that. When I go to sleep tonight I will be praying the o line and coaches of said unit will get it together so the proud running and passing games will be successful...

Tennessee's O-line is fine better than last year. We are still waiting on someone other than Coker to take advantage of it. You cannot run for three or four yards at a time we need a back who gets those extra yards every time (without fumbling) he hits the line like Henry, Webb, Stewart, Garner, and so on and so on always did. The O line can only start the process.

Yep, that's the problem with trying to dissect practices. If the OL does well, it makes you worry about the DL, and vice versa.

I'd like to see Jacques McClendon start at OG, even if he's not as far along as Scott. It would allow Scott to back up two positions fairly easily.

From everything I've read, all 4 guys who are getting reps are taking advantage.

Yeah, you definitely can't complain too much about the efforts of that group tonight. They made plays.

Welcome to the board.

I agree. I just want to see it in cali. I have a feeling someone other than foster is going to be the main guy be year's end but it can go either way. Also, a 1st team d-lineman do not always go all out unless in fear of losing his job in a scrimmage.

I don't know, I really think Foster is going to step up and run more like he did in 2005. To me, he really looks the part right now. I've never been really sold on Hardesty, including his durability.

I don't agree about the d-line. I think those tackles are still trying to prove themselves.

I don't even think the Cal game will give us a good idea of where we stand.

Last season, we ran for over 200 yards on them. We stuffed their run game, mostly, too.

Ditto on Hardesty. I think without the knee he would be a big time back already. All I can say is I played four years of Rugby and, although not at near the same level of athletic ability and financial stakes these guys play at and with, in my expeirence you do not stand in the way and waist your body in practice of 200 plus guys who have something to prove and a job to win.

Forsett Cal's back is a stud that is the concern but if you knock him out there is not much behind him. I think the only way we lose is if we let Forsett run wild.

We cannot allow Forsett to run wild.. That is all....

I'd be more worried if Forsett didn't play. The guys behind him are wayyyy faster, and are SEC caliber fast. Forsett, while not as bad as his performance in Neyland last season, doesn't worry me.

It is not all about speed if so we could hand the ball to Berry. We had Justin on the d-line remember. If they pass they will be playing into our strength--the linebacker will eat up Nate and the secondary will create turnovers. Hey is my pic showing up btw.

Ok, we can't allow any Cal tailback to run wild.

Well you are very right that the guys behind him are fast all 4.4 types but with no meat. None over 200 lbs. And although Forsett was not highly recruited according to things like rivals, he is 5-8 and 200 all muscle. It is kind of like a bowling ball. Mcfadden was not highly thought of by these same experts, only 3 stars. I dunno as they say we will see but I think it is all about stopping the run.

thanks, But our O-line is truly solid this year and playing with something to prove. Scott is not losing his tackle spot (it seems) because of bad play but the other guys have stepped up.

McFadden was a 5 star athlete.
