I know I'll catch a lot of heat for starting this thread this early in the season, but the truth is the truth. Mahoney isn't the man for the job. We're in year four with talent across the board, and the offensive line isn't where it needs to be. I believe in Butch and I'm happy with most of the staff, but we need to replace Mahoney at the end of the season. Who would of guys like? Les Miles' seat is extremely hot. If he's let go, I would like to see us go after Jeff Grimes.

Mahoney is no Sam Pittman or Phil Fulmer to be sure but considering they way the line blocked for a record Tennessee rushing attack last year, I will give Mahoney a pass for the last week's lackluster performance. There is an old adage that states that a team makes it most progress from week one to week two. I hope that is the case for the game in Bristol.

Hyams discussed our OL woes this morning. Said our zone blocking scheme is more passive, more finesse. Said we don't fire off the ball with an aggressive mentality but rather kinda try to get in the way of the defensive opponents and hope our RBs find a crease and break tackles. Said he believes this scheme and mindset directly correlates to our struggles with being so bad on short yardage plays last year.

My take away after hearing him is that he thinks it's more scheme and philosophy than an OL coach who's just doing a poor job. Tifwiw.

Maybe we just have bad linemen, maybe the coach sucks, who knows. I just love watching everyone dish out blame and call for heads.

The abuse over the past decade is strong in the fan base.

If this is the case, we have bigger problems. A poor offensive line coach is an easy fix, but running an offense where your line is constantly getting blown up and being okay with it is unacceptable.

If you don't like seeing people discuss the team and its problems, maybe stay off of message boards. I support Butch, but I don't ignore problems just because I love my team. The point of this board is to discuss what is going on with our team. Good and bad.

I honestly think Oline will be fine. Jashon R. has been All-SEC first or second team last two seasons I believe. Both Coleman and Weisman did very well last year. Tackles did good in Appy State game.

I am more worried about WRs. For 3 years we recruited big names like Von Pearson, North, Malone, Josh Smith, Jason Croom, P-Williams and many more. Yet we have not seen anyone perform well at UT. It can't be all QB. The drops, the inability to get open. It has to be not SEC caliber WR coach. I would get Charlie Bagget and ler Azzani go. Dude was heck of a WR coach. Justin Hunter, Da'Rick, Patterson all were his kids.

Just my opinion.

Yeah yeah yeah and then our OLine could play lights out against VA tech and everyone will forget about Mahoney until the OLinescrews up again. Then a couple receivers will drop passes and we will talk about firing coach Azzani and next thing you know a few big plays will be ran against us and we will all call Shoop a terrible hire. Same old same old

Yeah. You're right coach. Last week was the first time in over three years that our offensive line has performed poorly. Please delete the thread Freak.

At least you've identified the two weakest links I the staff, Mahoney and Azzani. It's no mistake you mentioned those two IMO.

Also, *run against us.

It all comes back to CBJ. He signed off on this care bear style of blocking and kept Mahoney after last season. Starts at the top

Like I said, I love seeing people call for heads so why would stay off the boards? And if it were an original thought I would love to discuss. But the horse is dead my friend..

There may very well be the same thread somewhere, and if there is, maybe it will get merged, but I didn't see it. While this thread has evolved into a thread about the job Mahoney has done, if you read my original post, the thread was about who you like us to pursue if Mahoney is let go. If you like to argue so much, be a lawyer.

Trust the process. If we keep this up, we could be 2-5 after the bammer game and that seat is going to be scalding hot. With a new ad coming in it's going to heat up even more. Im willing to hold judgment a little longer but Saturday will be very telling. I hope last week was just a bad game, but when you have a veteran oline not progressing, and you're dropping games to Vt it's hard to not blame the process.

You know what, on the face of it, it all sounds a little crazy and premature. But it's year 4.....gotta show significant progress and win vs the rivals this year to keep Blackburn from having to even consider anything when he gets here next year.
