Didn't see that this had been linked... Is the writer being optimistic? I think at a minimum, he was correct in saying that if we have significant injuries we're in trouble. First team should be pretty solid, but our backups scare me...

I think the O-line is as big of a key as the QB position this year. Even if our QB play is mediocre... if we can establish the run we can be very competitive because I believe our defense will be strong and special teams no longer a weak link.

If we stay healthy for the most part, I think this OL will be solid. I don't think we are as bad as we looked last year. Will be interesting to see how well the coaches have got them prepared. This year will tell you a lot about the coaches who are involved in the OL development.

I believe they will be strong. The offense will be much simpler and we will have quicker running backs that will hit the holes much faster than Foster did last year.

I agree that we should be better this season, hopefully it will pan out that way, and hopefully we will stay healthy... As far as being better goes, more simple schemes will definitely help, they can concentrate more on being aggressive and kicking @$$, and less on assignments. And yes, surely the RBs will hit the hole faster than Foster did.

That guy is one of the biggest Florida homer's there is and his job is to cover UT football for the Kingsport Times. Sometimes he is good though and I beleive th O line will be similar to what we had in '06 instead of the musical chair crap Clawson tried to pull last year.

IMO, if the O-line plays well this year, our QB play will not be mediocre. The QBs took the blame last year for our offense, but the truth is, our O-line was terrible and it all starts with them. I am not saying it was their fault for a system they were forced to run that they never understood, but the fact is, they performed poorly and therefore, so did our QBs, WRs and RBs.

I've got a funny feeling we're gonna find out about the "Offensive Line" in the second and third weeks in September

IMO nothing on the offense should be considered a strength after last season.

Just throwing this out there but with all the talk about how a "simplified offense" is going to be a good thing this year, I wonder just how many people here will be complaining that we are too predictable by mid season?

Just saying.

Bammer's line don't look too good either, especially when compared to last year's hoss.

We're much better off on the OL this year, finally have some depth. The guy in the black tank top, 6'7" 370lbs., no fat, will do quite nicely at LT.

If we're predictable like '95 Nebraska I'll take it.

Seriously though, someone is always going to gripe, and many will after we lose our first game. We'll take our lumps this year for sure... but the more mature fans will realize that this is a process and we won't being a contender overnight. As long as we execute well and play with heart we're going in the right direction, predictable or not.

He won't even play this year. Everything I've read has said it will take a year or two for him to learn technique and footwork because he just used his size in HS.

O line should be better than the overweight folks they had in the past who could not pull for an outside run.

It's hard for kids to practice good fundamentals when you can just steam roll your opponents. J. Smith was talking about it in an interview, actually...saying he knows he needs to practice using his hands, but when you can just run over guys, you tend not to bother.

This guy is a moron. Our offensive line is a major weakness.

They better play the #2 line a good bit in first game (hopefully more than the last staff would have done), then work 'em in for a few more reps the next game. This sounds so basic, and yet -- Crompton '07 ... wtf?

I think the reality is 6'7" and 370lbs prospects with no fat, end up on the field fast.

He can't be any worse than the backup for Andre Smith was...looked like garbage against Tulane and Utah

Its all about the zone blocking scheme. It is simpler. It doesn't matter how the d lines up- you run your play and mash the first person in your way.

I hope this will be different than in the past when we would dodge a defender to hit the "right" guy... Resulting in tackled in the backfield.

I don't think simpler will mean more predictable
