umm we didn't run the pistol anymore the past few games than we have all year we line up in pistol 5-10 times every game nearly. I think sometimes people see what they want to see sometimes I guess.
What I saw was guys playing with the monkey off their back. Trusting the guy behind them and in front of them. What you saw was guys executing the same offense we have played pretty much all year with of course wrinkles put in for Kentucky. yes every game there are different wrinkles put in to exploit match-ups. It is Butch's mentality. He preaches it every week in every press conference. I wish people would start looking at all of every game instead of picking and choosing what they want to see.
Forget what anyone else looked like scheme scheme. Kelly looks (much like JJ) like a man possessed every-time he touches the ball as if it will be his last. Kamara looked, well like himself, just a bit more pep in his step knowing he was Batman now instead of Robin. I think Kelly and JJ set a tone at their positions. I will say it again I have never seen a WR block like that and fight for every ball like its his last meal since Hines ward. That play against Florida when he reached over the linebacker and snatched a ball that should have bounced off his back and maybe been picked let me know. In fact if you watch all our big comebacks there was a huge JJ play that seemed to spark the offense. I am very very optimistic about our WR's next year overall but especially those 2. The O-line has to get better. I honestly thing whichever QB starts will do fine because he will have more polished weapons and a better line than Dobbs ever had.
The scheme was different in every aspect. There was seldom less than 6 blockers. They used an unbalanced line rather than a balanced line. They used an H back as a receiver , blocker and lead blocker. The passive zone was at times an aggressive zone. Meaning that rather that just get in the way of the first man in your zone and let the RB come to the gaps , they were attacking the gaps and driving the blocks. This is all stylistically different. Also , it appears that they simplified the layered west coast read which mystified JDs to a single read executable. Meaning he was reading an over under combo in one area of the field .
What I dont know is is this was schemed just for UK or if it is a reaction to Hurd leaving of if it is an attempt to resolve the sputters and stops and starts that this offense has suffered from all season. I believe approach would have helped them be more consistent in every game they have played and have noted all of these concepts in previous posts. I have never thought that JD was suited for a layered west coast and have always thought that the spring draw concept of running is terrible in general and especially terrible when you can complete intermediate passes. It was good to see them consistently power running concepts
