I haven't gone back to verify this but going strictly off memory, it seems we always come out strong on the first few drives of offense. Even tonight, Dobbs got out of the pocket and completed downfield passes, Hurd was used as lead blocker, and we moved the ball across the 50 into their territory before sacks killed the drives.

So does Butch get the game plan together on the first 15, or however many scripted plays they use, and then when it comes time for debord to make actually decisions he short circuits to 1st and Hurd.

We always seem to have good plays dialed up early but when they run out or adversity strikes, DeBord chits the bed.

If Butch is the one scripting the plays then it has to be absolutely infuriating to him to see the under utilization and lack of competence when the play calling goes directly to OC.

Last year our scripted plays were good enough for an opening TD almost every game. This year we barely get 1 TD the entire first half. Time for some new scripts.

For starters on 3rd down, make sure the receiver routes go beyond the first down marker. When it's 3rd and 5, a pass behind the line or 2 yards down field into coverage isn't going to do any good.
If we are not going to utilize Dobbs' strengths in the first half, then start QD and mix things up. Otherwise just punt on 3rd down to get bettter field position and hope our depleted defense can get a score for us
