Appears that David (Punk) O'Connor is the new football coach at Lincoln County. Won the state title at Giles County last year - Lincoln County alum.

Just a heads up for anyone who might be interested.

I knew he wouldnt stay long at Giles

I know him very well and am a little surprised, to tell you the truth. I doubt that he would've left for many other places. Had a good thing going over in Pulaski. Lots of support, enough players to get it done, etc. Great crowds. My Bad, man - just noticed your location after I wrote this. You know about the support better than me.

But he's a Lincoln County guy and I think that must've played a major role.

Confirmed now - starts 1/11

Glad to hear it we need a tough minded coach to restore the LC to our former glory. Hope he can get Alvin Palmer to stay on to improve the line play:clapping::loco::rock::yess::clap::victory::worship::fireworks:

I hope AP stays as well. I'd imagine that there's a pretty good chance of that, too. One big concern with that is just that AP still lives somewhere up near Franklin and commutes - can imagine the drive getting to be too much eventually. If the gory details like that work out, I'm sure AP would like to be there. Punk played for him back in the 80's, as did Don Thomas.

Really hope Don stays, too. I think he would stay unless an attractive HC job fell in his lap - don't think there's much chance he'd be an assistant anywhere else. Not sure who OC is bringing with him from Giles Co, beyond his brother Joey. Several of those guys are LC alums too - I'm guessing that you may know that already, tho. :)

I couldn't be more excited about it!:dance2:

Sounds like it may be falling through after all. The Fayetteville City School System just voted to add grades 10-12 to it's system (historically 9th grade only, so students then went to LCHS, of the county school system). Looks like OC is going to balk at that and I don't blame him. Would bump him down a few classes and eliminate a lot of players.

Sad part is, there's not a chance on earth that taxpayers in Fayetteville are going to be willing to pay for a new high school when the county has one that's plenty big right there in town.

Well, it's over - O Connor is staying at Giles County. Depending upon who you ask, either the City (Fayetteville) is starting their own high school program, or the city school board voted that way to torpedo the coaching hire. My bet is that it never happens and was the latter - old rivalries/jealousies and such - hope I'm wrong. But bet anything that a 'Fayetteville High' never comes to fruition.

Don't blame David in the least - either way, it's not worth fooling with. That's a sad commentary from a previous Captain of the team, but that's how it is.
