1. Congratulations to Cal. They simply outplayed Tennessee. Bear fans should celebrate this victory now, because it won't look like much when UT finishes 6-6. 2. LSU is going to annihliate Va. Tech. 3. The Cal fans were extremely gracious. The Bear's Lair is a neat place. 4. Auburn has real issues on offense. 5. Notre Dame may well lose 7 or 8 games. 6. Poor Jim Harbaugh has about 10 legitimate Pac 10 quality players on his entire roster. 7. I don't think anyone will be calling Appalachian State to fill a hole in their schedule.

What was your estimate on the amount of Tennessee fans packing Memorial Stadium? They sounded pretty loud at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Also, did you happen to see the treetards first hand?

15,000. Yes, I entered the stadium through the gates closest to the fenced in area that contained the protesters.

Tennessee fans were loud for sections of the first half until the Bears took a 17 point lead. They got loud when the lead closed to 7, but after that Forsett TD they slowly started to filter out. But they were only noticeable for stretches, mainly when Ainge was throwing it well. They were drowned out the rest of the game, and I was standing closer to the Vols sections. Some UT fan started doing war whoops in the 4th quarter. That was great.

It's funny--most of the younger Cal football fans HATE the treebirds and the hippies. I'd say that Tennessee fans were morbidly curious, but not as belligerent as some of our Cal fans were.

I heard Musburger went crazy over those Oaks people--what exactly did he say?

I'm glad to hear that. I heard some bad things.

Called them tree huggers and something about Cal giving them a 3 for 1 deal replanting trees.

Would love to have seen the look on Herbstreit's face when Musberger went off on the protesters, an awkward moment of silence followed that little rant.

Here's what I gained from this game:

Our lack of a deep thread is painfully evident. As the game progressed, the Cal defense squeezed closer to the line of scrimmage due to lack of fear of the long ball.

We were beaten by speed to the outer edges of the field.

Larry Slade has to go.

We don't have proper tackling technique.

Our third down play calling is atrocious.

Ainge is a definite pro prospect with his direction and command of the line of scrimmage and his overall comprehension of this pro style offense.

Our defense is suspect again this year.

Our offensive line shows spurts of great play.

Tennessee will most likely lose at least 4 times this season.

At best, we're a 21-25 ranked team.

Can't argue with these points at all..... It makes me wish we opened with Arkansas State rather than Cal but that's how it goes. We can't tackle for sh8t. Those short passses were just an admission that we have no deep threat and we don't have that kind of confidence in any of our recievers yet.

Lucas Taylor despite some pitiful drops, he played well last night, Austin Rogers was okay. And if coker was in the game for some of those runs.....we coul'dve won that game, hopefully he realizes that and adjust his priorities accordingly.

I agree with alot of this, but the bottom line is that the offense played well enough to win, and the defense didn't. A terrible defensive performance.

where's HV? didnt he say that our D-Line is fine...that we dont need to recruit any more guys? wait 'till McFadden rolls over us.

He doesn't play defense, so I highly doubt Coker would have help us enough to win.

I'll take my crow grilled. I said that the DL would be much improved this year but they just didnt have much depth. I was wrong. The DL is not improved and we have no depth. The DL was pathetic last night. We better score a lot of points the rest of the year if we wont to make it to a decent bowl.

The Tidy Bowl is now looking at prospective teams-we'd love to have UT and pray we don't but this is going to be a long year and I see myself sending the invitation now.

Defense looked terrible...

I thought A. Foster, Ainge, and Berry played very well. Berry looked really impressive on his hits, not sure how his coverage was.

Hefney looked lost out there. I don't know if his injury w as affecting him or what, but even before that a couple Cal players made him look about silly.

No deep threat at WR... just a bunch of possession guys, at least last night.

If that is VT's offense, LSU will be having some fun

Hat, I remember your preseason predictions for the Vols seeming overly pessimistic. Now, it looks almost like you were being naively optimistic.

Our soft defensive line made the rest of the defense look terrible.

No kidding. get in the backfield, just once, and try making a play

most of the game they were chasing people from behind while 2nd/3rd level players triedddd to tackle

i don't think we can truly judge our d-line from this game. bottom line is cal's rb's are just flat out fast. we love to hype florida for their speed, but they don't have anything remotely close to that speed in the backfield. let's see what happens in the SEC. I still think we lose two-three more games unless we learn to tackle though, something tennessee has never been good at.

They will be using Wrs as the Rbs. Harvin and Caldwell are just as fast.

And Tebow is faster than Longshore, and you can say he hasn't proven anything, but even if he does struggle at times, there is no doubt there will be plays where he has us wanting to pull our hair out.

Yea, it looks like we're lacking in the playmakers offensively. But at least our wrs resembled pass catchers.

Looks like all our problems defensively carried over from last year. :cray:
