Objective analysis from an LSU perspective...

excellent message board post. I enjoyed that even though it gave us some more credit at times than we deserve.

A lot of this can be attributed to a fan who hasn't seen UT play as many times as we have (obviously) and knows his team a lot better than ours.

Their DBs have to have the edge, but I like Foster better than Hester.

and i disagree with the special teams assessment, although i wouldn't give us high marks either if all i saw on TV were the big punt returns we gave up earlier in the year over and over on ESPN. colquitt is solid, lincoln has had a phenomenal year (the "constant riding" on him by fulmer in the preseason seems to have been a genious move) and our return and coverage units are definitely better.

That and the lack of sacks has more to do with Ainge than the O-line. I'm not taking anything away from the line....they have played very well, but Ainge has been very careful about avoiding the sack (perhaps at times even to his detriment.)

be careful with putting genius and fulmer in the same sentence around here.... :whistling:

Colt David will probably get the 1st Team All-SEC, and I'd take his experience and range over Lincoln, although I give DL 100% credit for the game saving kicks all year.

No doubt they are very disappointed with their season considering who the opponents that handed them their two losses. The only glaring advantages I see on the UT side is at QB. The OL may be a slight edge to UT, but it isn't much. Talentwise (especially considering depth issues) it is safe to assume they take the edge at every other position with the possible exception of LB.

IMO if it were not for the very lean years previous to Saban's arrival and the distinct possibility of losing their head coach, they would be raising a much bigger ruckus about their two losses.

He underestimates our LB's and over estimates our secondary, IMO. Otherwise, very good write up.

I think this fan is definitely erring on the side of caution in some of these assessments. A paper comparison of these teams should definitely yield more than a 4 pt. edge for the Tigers, but there's the problem for LSU: stats don't tell the tale for Tennessee right now. The defense for example, though improved, is definitely heart over numbers. I mean, the defense we've tortorously watched over the course of this season DOES NOT hold a virtual superman in Darren McFadden to 109 yds and relatively quiet presence all day...yet they did just that. And Georgia? The dawgs were not having just a bad day..we were having a simply inspired day. As a team, I feel over the last 5 games, we were about 30% improvement and 70% heart. This Saturday will depend on the same intangible, imo: if the heart shows up, we stand a good chance.

seems like a good objective write up. I agree with it on most parts.. I disagree with the special teams. While not the best in college football they have been doing much better latley. I would give us a slight edge on that one.

i think some pessimism has set in with them coming off a loss last week.

they win that game, and it's no where near even.

anyway, the bulk of what he said is farily accurate, as it relates to schemes etc......i'd just have hard time putting "even" anywhere on the def. side of the ball.

i'm like lex......OL and QB are the two i'd say are def. our advantage.

from the LSU board:

Our DBs might be even talent wise, but ours are better hands down. They have like 3 freshman starting DBs and one is a true freshman. They are just too inexperienced at this point.

Oh, I really do hope they believe this and decide to "test" Eric Berry every other play.

Apparently, they haven't gotten the message that he's 1st team Frosh All-American.

I enjoyed the lsu fans take on the game and teams, i have to agree with final couple of statments, if VOLS come who played Geo. and Ark. it's our championship, otherwise lsu wins, even if banged up a bit. I beleive VOLS need to bring all the heart and enthusiasm they possibly can and we will overcome some areas such as DB maturity/experience. I hope some of the players remember that we had lsu in the hole last year and let them slip out. GO VOLS, I predict the opposite 4 point margin of victory, VOLS 38 tigers 34.

From LSU's perspective and looking at UT's defense, they are going to try to run the ball against UT.

Probably use 4 WR, a single RB Hester, to spread the field, and then run Hester all night. That's the key to the game, stopping Hester.

I agree that stopping Hester will be key, particularly if Flynn is significantly less than 100%. Hester runs VERY hard, he's not going to make a lot of people miss, but he's a guy you have to wrap up because he puts up big YAC.

Tennessee has had problems early in the season wrapping up and tackling.
