Oats to Murland?

The reasoning makes zero sense. Oats is so upset that Alabama puts much more resources into football, he’s going to leave for a program that spends less than what Alabama is currently spending on basketball? Maryland’s top insider laughed this off.

Oats has too good of a thing going at Bama. Why go to that part of the country, to a school whose former coach just aired out the dirty laundry of the athletic program and there’s no athletics director?

I also love the irony of Maryland leaving the ACC for the greener pastures of the B1G, only to be a poverty, mostly irrelevant program since they joined.

Only reason could be to get a raise at Bama because someone else is interested.

If Oats leaves, it would be to NC. That job would have to open up.
It will be interesting to see if Hubert can save his job next year and also to see what kind of impact Will Wade’s hiring at State has on the Heels approach if Hubert gets fired . Carolina has always kept a UNC connection going since Dean. I don’t see anyone from inside the “family” that has accomplished anything worthy of that job .

There’s just no way he’s going to go to Maryland a year after saying no to Kentucky lol.

Everybody keeps trying to wishcast him out of Bama but there have never been any indications from his camp that he isn’t dead set on staying in Tuscaloosa long term.

Maryland isn't a blueblood or someone used to all that much success. they are getting a far bigger pay check. makes it much easier to take their lumps up north rather than on the coast.

they are currently making 15 million more than they would in the ACC. and that is before the new weighted ACC payments hit, or the new Big 10 deal coming in a couple years.

This is all true, but their former coach publicly talking about how their administration was too cheap to keep them in NYC an extra night after a game isn’t the best look in the world . That and him saying that they’re last in the B1G in NIL doesn’t shine a good light either. I find anything that puts Maryland and their $hit fanbase in bad light amusing .

I still haven't seen a reputable source pick up on this. Him going to Maryland would make zero sense, even if he is unhappy at Alabama.
DC Metro, not Tuscaloosa, good recruiting, indoor plumbing, large informal gun market, huge and rich alumni network, etc. Lots of positives.

Well in theory, they don't have a AD right now. So Oats would have the power to "name his guy" if he really wanted. But i just saw where Buzz is going

If we're just talking basketball only-agree MD isn't a blue blood, but they are one of the first few out

They don't have a bad histoy-at all and have enjoyed success across multiple eras.

Beats the hell out of Alabama and their basketball dynasty-since 2022 lol.
