O-Line Pride... it's simple, but I like it.

From Drew Edwards blog today:

What's the bond like with you, Zach Fulton, JerQuari Schofield, James Stone and some of those other young linemen?

"It's great. We call it, 'O-Line Pride.' We all stick together. Everybody that I've talked to, from Jarrod (Shaw) to Carson Anderson and everybody on the team that was here before, they said they've never been this close before as an offensive line and as a unit. All summer, we're working hard together, coming early to get extra work, extra film. I feel like we're bonding. Right now, as the season goes on, you're going to see us get better, I think. And also as they years go on with Zach, James, me and JerQuari and all of us, I think we're going to do pretty well."

Most of these kids on the line are being thrown to the wolves so to speak. A lot of them would never see the field this season under normal circumstances. I guess I view it as kind of an 'us against the world' mentality. That bond between offensive lineman is important. More so than a lot of other positions.

Honestly, I just hope everyone will give the team a couple of years to get settled in. I think we will see the progress this week against UAB.

No other position has to work together as well as the OL in order for the team to be successful.
So i'm with you about the bond between each other being important.

Funny thing is that I have yet to look at the line and go "Wow, these guys are playing like garbage."

Simms, on the other hand...

When we lose by 10 ... right? Did your daughter's friend tell you that also?:the_finger:

I'm really excited about our O-Line for the future, especially James and Stone anchoring it for the next four years.

We need QB pride......Simms is not the answer.....glad to see our OL getting along just fine though...they will only get better as the year goes along.....next year will be great for the OL....

With Stone's first name being James, it makes me take a double take when reading stuff like this. Saying Stone and James wouldn't be so bad, but it seems to always go, James and Stone..or James, Stone..lol

Simms is a stopgap for Bray. After we get through October, I expect a QB change unless I see something drastically different with Simms.

I don't know if Bray will start this year....I sure hope he is ready next year....Simms is one of the worst QBs I've seen at UT that I can remember...I just don't see how Kiffie wanted him over Newton

I think FLK just wanted Thompkins and thought Simms was the key to get him to UT. Simms would have gone elsewhere if we took Newton. Maybe he thought Stephens could turn it around like Crompton did his senior year and that's why we have Simms instead. I believe he is trying and I'm not trying to put him down. We have who we have and that won't change. Just hope Simms can improve.

It does not matter who the quarterback is- if he does not get better protection- dont expect better results!

We've had some not so good QBs.....but Simms is the worst
I think people need to stop dogging Matt. He is in there getting killed against some of the best athletes in the country last week and he kept getting up. For the year he is 48/84, 591 yards, 3 td's and 3 int's.

Look at where Crompton was last year at this time. 45/73, 419 yards, 5 tds, and 7 int's.
For those with the short memory, all of Crompton's td's were in the WKU game.

Matt has had some terrible throws that were picked off at important times in the games. I am not saying that he hasn't, but he is playing behind a very young offensive line and against some pretty good defenses(UTM not included). Let the line get more reps and let Matt keep learning the system. I almost can guarantee you that if Bray was in that game, he wouldn't have been getting up after all of those hits. Most of us knew this year was going to be a long year, so lets try to enjoy the little things of seeing the guys competing harder and getting a little bit better each week. GBO!

IIRC, the o-linemen were walking around during the summer yelling "O-Line Pride" at people. I think the other players were getting annoyed by it. Regardless, it def shows they have come together as a unit.

In two years time, this is the kind of good learning experience that will be passed on to future OL. And in that time, this group is going to be scary good and we will once again see Tennessee playing some true smash mouth football.
