Excluding their first 2 draft classes: Fulmer at TN through 9 years had 48 players drafted and Saban at AL had 51 players drafted. In years 10 and 11 Fulmer had 18 more players drafted. This means a few different things but most importantly at TN a coach can recruit with anyone in the country. This should make all of us very hopeful for the future that if we have the right head coach nobody should out recruit us.

I also looked back at TN vs FL draft classes from 94-01. TN had 53 players drafted vs 40 for FL.

Just goes to show how badly Fulmer UNDERACHIEVED.

He should have won more SEC and National Titles with that much talent.

Spurrier took his lunch too often.

Someone must have forgotten to tell Florida that they were supposed to lose to us during that span

Spurrier was simply better than Fulmer.

Coaching only makes a difference when talent is close. And after seeing these numbers on NFL draft picks, it shows that Fulmer was simply getting outcoached.

He had no excuse losing to Florida as much as he did.

Ok, so remind me again real quick -- 1) on whom do you blame last year's FL game/loss -- coaching, or the players? and 2) after the 2015 season, how many FL players were drafted vs tn's?

Last year was coaching. The players played well enough to win. Butch and Jancek lost it.

I like how people think it's so easy to win championships in sports. Look through and tell me how many modern(1970 and onward) head coaches won more than 1 national title.

Hell, some of the (more recent) guys considered among the greatest ever? Bowden only won 2(44 seasons, 33 of them at FSU). Paterno only won 2(46 seasons). Carroll only won 2(9 seasons). Spurrier only won 1(26 seasons). Carr only won 1(13 seasons). Fulmer only won 1(16 seasons).

So Fulmer(basing off of championships per seasons) only falls behind Carroll(and technically Carr too I guess). Those teams coached by those guys listed above didn't lack in talent, I assure you.

People are spoiled these days(especially kids like Dobbs For Heisman who probably never even watched a game that Carr or Bowden coached, even though they retired relatively recently) watching Urban Meyer and Nick Saban, thinking that what they're doing is the standard or the norm, not realizing we're watching maybe the 2 greatest coaches to ever do it.

Winning a national title in college football is one of the hardest things to do in sports. It not only requires great coaching and great recruiting, it requires an insane amount of luck to go along with it.

I've never understood this attitude. 90% of success is recruiting, IMO. He had one of the best runs of any coach at any school in my lifetime but negavols find a way to characterize that as underachieving. It's absurd. If you want to say we could have won more, fine, but replace Fulmer with just about any other coach in history and we do worse. It's asinine.
