Now this is a Mike Hamilton type of hire: Troy Calhoun

I think Hammy knows exactly what he is doing. Why fire Phillip THIS week? Are the fans gonna be more upset next week? What if we beat Wy. does it change anything? Why not do all of this during the bye week? This is the Tampa bye week. Want to talk to Gruden, this is the best time. Is it true that we might not have to pay a buy-out for Gruden because his contract stipulates it? Dunno, but if you are Hammy...he knows. Why not bring Kiffen in at the same time, let the boosters have time with both? Feel out Cowher too, why not. Want to talk to other college coaches, i think you wait to kick Phil to the curb and hold onto the recruits a little longer. I think Hamilton is on top of this big time. I hear what Basillio and the like say about recruiting, I do. Gruden's name alone would recruit just like Carroll's did at USC, and then of course, hire good recruiting coaches...look at what Clawson was willing to give up to come to UT(HC's don't take giving up that control lightly). Think of the coaches who would line up for Gruden. I don't think Hammy would've done this right now if he didn't have a pretty clear picture of what the end game would be.

That seems to be the case.

I just heard that Troy Calhoun is intrested in the UT coaching position. Perhaps it was the other way around UT is intrested in him. Just caught the last part of the info on a local sports show. Just wondering if there is any other info on him as a head coach candidate.

He hasn't accomplished enough to be offered a huge job like this yet.He needs to go to Washington, that would be a much better fit.

I have not heard his name mentioned untill I heard it on a local sports talk show. I will listen to the rest of the program they are going to discuss more of the new coach position. John Brice from Vol Quest was there earlier today.

In the John Brice interview he stated that Calhoun was a outside shot but could the best coaches available. He said take Gruden, Davis and Cowher off the list.

His top pics were Kiffin, Leach, Kelly, Calhoun and Muschamp.

Ever since Kiffin got fired from Oakland, he's the guy I've wanted...

He seemed to know some info even admited that they unofficially spoke to Cowher. Like he said it was too early to pick. Personally would like to have Lane and Monty Kiffin. I fill Leach is a good coach. Perhaps Calhoun may be the best. Personally I was wanting a bigger known name. Hard for me to choose if I had too from the list he gave.

I'll add one last comment I am just not certain about Leach. I know that this year he has a very good team however in the years past his conference record has just been OK. I'm just afraid he will be an average SEC coach and we will just be a middle of the conference team. However if he gets the players that we should get he may do well.

I brought this up here. And it's not beyond the realm of possibilities...or maybe it is. Who really knows. This thread could be merged, though.

The reason why Texas Tech is undefeated is because of Mike Leach and new DC Ruffin Mcneal.Tech has had a Hell of an offense all along, but last year they had a terrible defense to go with it.Mcneal has made a vast improvement in Tech's defense.

You guys crack me up.
1. UT is not a top tier program anymore
2. A 4-8 AFA team was a 2 point conversion from beating UT in 06
3. UT would be lucky to get Troy Calhoun. He coaches his team to their strengths. Coached for Mike Shanahan and was named Offensive Coordinator for the Houston Texans. The guy has some experience and has been successful at every level.
4. Do your homework!!
