The Air Force Head coach...he has a nice resume and isn't too flashy at the moment. UT can get him cheap, give the keys and watch him go. I say this b/c of Hamilton's previous 3 hires and the fact that this name is starting to get some mention.

Nooo, not even. Raise your standards, this is TN!

I think the days of getting coaches on the cheap in this division are gone. We apparently planned well for this.

I'm just saying...look at Hamilton's track record for hiring. He hasn't gone big on any of them. He finds talent and potential and gives them the tools to get off top dead center.

Hamilton has no choice but to go big with this hire. If Calhoun was hired Hamilton would be looking for a job.

This is FOOTBALL not basketball...He has to go deep on this one...He can't screw around as this is the big money maker at UT...No hotshot assistants who chest bump his players either...Go get a KILLER and cut him loose...I like Mike Leach

Are they still running that triple-option type offense?

It is hard to think about someone you've never heard of taking over a tier-one program, huh? Especially with all the Gruden talk. I think the guy would do better than Fulmer, but UT would still be stuck in the ole rut and unable to trump Meyer on any level.

No, it's not hard to think of. The question is why one would do so.

Why take a risk on a no-name coach when proven ones are attainable and appropriate for UT's program and its corresponding compensation.

Didn't they win a game a couple of weeks ago without even attempting a pass? An offense that one dimensional would not last in the SEC. Just my two...

No that was Navy although in a game a few weeks ago Air Force did only complete 1 pass as the QB was 1 for 2 with a TD and an int. :eek:lol: So much for changing the offense. Calhoun could be a great hire though for all I know. I would take a number of other coaches over him though namely Brian Kelly.

I knew it was one of the academies, but two passes is pretty one-sided too.

Pearl was a up and coming coach in basketball before he came to UT. Right now they may be more buzz about the bball team right now except we the recent force out of ole Phil but this is a Fball school and will always will be. UT has to get a guy with a proven track record Calhoun would be a big mistake.

Mike Hamilton is thinking about how to unite the fans together by his new hire. Guys like Troy Calhoun is not gonna do any good to this goal. So is Mike Leach, the guy from Minnesota, and guys like that

I'm not sold on the name (yet), but I agree completely with the rest of the post.

Go Vols.

I think Hammy knows exactly what he is doing. Why fire Phillip THIS week? Are the fans gonna be more upset next week? What if we beat Wy. does it change anything? Why not do all of this during the bye week? This is the Tampa bye week. Want to talk to Gruden, this is the best time. Is it true that we might not have to pay a buy-out for Gruden because his contract stipulates it? Dunno, but if you are Hammy...he knows. Why not bring Kiffen in at the same time, let the boosters have time with both? Feel out Cowher too, why not. Want to talk to other college coaches, i think you wait to kick Phil to the curb and hold onto the recruits a little longer. I think Hamilton is on top of this big time. I hear what Basillio and the like say about recruiting, I do. Gruden's name alone would recruit just like Carroll's did at USC, and then of course, hire good recruiting coaches...look at what Clawson was willing to give up to come to UT(HC's don't take giving up that control lightly). Think of the coaches who would line up for Gruden. I don't think Hammy would've done this right now if he didn't have a pretty clear picture of what the end game would be.

Air Force defeated Houston on September 13, a game in which they attempted 0 passes.
